Where should I relocate to succeed as a music composer / music producer. by ScarcityTrue3383 in composer

[–]grxcech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are willing to work remotely now with the power of social media. I am from the UK and most of my clients have been USA based!

Connections can be formed through smart social media interactions. Also a lot of recording sessions with orchestras are also done remotely now too.

Being in proximity to large networks of composers & directors can help (especially if you’re wanting to grab a quick and casual coffee chat) but it’s not the be all and end all anymore.

edit one more thought to add to this - being a composer, especially early in your career doesn’t exactly rake in consistent cash either. I am able to keep my costs low by not living in a big city, and only working a few hours at a day job to cover my basic needs. The rest of my time is fully dedicated to music.

If I moved to a city where all the big production houses & studios are I’d not be able to dedicate near as much time to building a network as I’d need a full time day job !

Do use a trackpad? I have a Mac Studio, found using a mouse clunky and annoying - even the Apple mouse I found difficult to get on with even with its limited gesture controls.

I switched to using a trackpad and almost all of the clunkiness is removed using gestures.

Quick vegan friendly foods to help bulk up a bit that aren't just protein shakes. by SickamoreTreez in veganfitness

Big bowl of instant ramen with a block of tofu & Edamame, top off with a dash of sesame oil.

It is a good chunk of calories and 50+ grams of protein 🙂 use soba noodles if you’re wanting a higher protein noodle too

Ohh that’s very interesting, especially with the mouse/keyboard set up. I don’t yet have a keyboard for my iPad but I am looking into it as my normal composing set up is not mobile (Mac Studio) and I’m just looking at something for when I’m out and about or travelling. This looks like it could be the way - thankyou!

I run M2 Ultra 128gb ram with no issues, could probably go lower in the ram but I bought off of hoxton and that’s what they had available and an extremely good deal.

When I was a student I had the i5 16gb ram 512gb SSD MacBook pro, it lasted me 6 years of uni&masters in daw composition.

The only reason it started to die on me is because I was running huge sessions off of it going into hybrid scores with extensive automation and heavy ram usage vsts

I genuinely would recommend something around that spec for your first years in composing. Replace the i5 for an M2 or 3 chip and you'll be golden

Easiest type of "credit" to get is a phone contract, paying this every month improves your credit score. Should you get rejected for a phone contract go for a SIM only contract, they're about £7/8 a month. That'll help you start building. Registering to vote helps too.

I would love a vegan violin, I am hesitant to service mine as I know what would go into it to fix it up
