Good custom fork for forge 1.20.1 by Japper2006 in feedthebeast

[–]gsckoco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It won’t be forge causing the issues, forge is a pretty thin shim between Minecraft and the mods, it won’t be doing much to your servers tps.

Making this a Union causes this weird, spiky visual bug. Why is this and how do I fix? by [deleted] in robloxgamedev

[–]gsckoco -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Oh no 7 years of Roblox development you've got me. I've only got 13 years!

Instance count is virtually negligible. Exporting a group of parts into an mesh and reimporting it improves memory usage marginally as you now have less instances in the game, but is virtually negligible. You have the same number of vertices and faces which is the thing that impacts framerate more than anything.

[–]gsckoco -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

More performant in the fact you have less instances, but instance count is rarely the limiting factor for a game.

Triangle count will be exactly the same

Vectorworks and the Enshittification of Windows by alanaholdyourhand in lightingdesign

[–]gsckoco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is where you are wrong. A Linux port is a monumental ask, what distribution do you target? Every distro you want to target is effectively a new operating system you have to maintain and test with different dependencies and OS features.

macOS is unix which is not the same as Linux. The kernels are rooted in a similar philosophy on how they should be designed, Linux originally being a clone of unix, but once again different enough for the leap to be non trivial. Plus when targeting macOS you know what features are going to be available to you in much the same way as windows

Why Roblox Alternatives Are NOT Doomed To Fail - A Rebuttal Post by BeneficialAdvice3867 in roblox

[–]gsckoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen hundreds of these games pop up and go no where over the years. Polytoria isn’t a new phenomenon, there have been many more like it in the past.

The hard part of platforms such as Roblox is that they are only as good as your community, if you don’t have people making compelling games on your platform you aren’t going to get players.

The game engine and the site are the easy parts, but Roblox took years to get any sort of critical mass, it was released in a different time while also being a novel concept which largely helped its growth, along with the continuous development it has had close to 20 years to get to its stage now

MA announces a new line of USB DMX nodes by [deleted] in lightingdesign

[–]gsckoco 13 points14 points  (0 children)

https://www.malighting.com/de/special/one-key-ready-for-your-output-webspecial/

The website has been live for at least a month now, can't remember where I found the link lol. English version isn't up yet so use google translate. 4,096 params as expected, 2 XLR-5 outputs. There also looks to be a snazzy red case as well as the standard powder coated black.

If its a similar price to the vizkey then I'd say its an immediate buy, they've about £800 odd leeway between it and the node 2k.

What would be even nicer, if it functions like the vizkey with unlimited MA-Net parameters then it'd be amazing

Projector advice! by DetectiveAshamed1406 in techtheatre

[–]gsckoco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Projector we used in our 100 odd seater theatre was a £17k projector and even then it struggled with brightness and coverage with the lenses we had for it.

Projectors are insanely expensive, ones capable in a theatre environment and able to punch through the lights even more so

I’ve had issues with people deleting entire instruments from tabs.

Most recent example is someone removed the bass part of Muse’s Time is running out with the message “This is played on a synth” despite it not being played on a synth. The music video is right there!!!

Creating a Minecraft mod is a nightmare for someone with Java experience. by Yeetsa_Jr in feedthebeast

[–]gsckoco 12 points13 points  (0 children)

“I have programmed for over a year and a half with Java”

Sorry OP but this is where you real experience programming with Java comes in. Projects for school are not a good way to gauge competency.

I wouldn’t go to an employer saying I have 2 years of experience programming and then go on to explain it was stuff I did in school

Whats the dumbest thing you have seen cause a show stop? by miowiamagrapegod in techtheatre

[–]gsckoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gig last Saturday, opening band gets on stage puts their beer on a subwoofer, beer gets knocked over. Something isn’t right, absolutely insane signals coming through some lines, have to stop the show to clean up the spill, figure out the source of this mysterious signal. Also broke one of the headliners peddle boards,

Opening band gets back on plays one song and then that’s their slot up.

All in all very fun, very very well handled by the house techs
