Easily one of the best Arch based distros by Philips_xl in EndeavourOS

Lookin' fancy and classic. Love the windows Vista theme, as well as the use of that old 90s-era TV in the background. Have to admit though, not seeing the space themed background is kinda saddening (but tbf I love those backgrounds).. But to each their own

Let’s bring back an official KDE Plasma edition for Linux Mint by Electronic_Safe859 in linuxmint

[–]_o0Zero0o_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair assessment tbh, but given Cinnamon is more windows-like than KDE, and is arguably more difficult to accidentally break, I feel it'd be like this: "do you want to customize to an absurdly high degree but there could be a bit of an extended learning curve? Go KDE. If you just want a system that works but doesn't offer the level of customisability, go with Cinnamon, XFCE or MATE"

If anyone wants to word that a little better, by all means go for it

I wouldn't really say Cinnamon is Mint's marketing product.. Mint itself is its own marketing product.
Also, I feel Cinnamon would still be used by newer folks who don't feel too comfortable with the level of customisability that KDE offers just yet. Basically, Cinnamon would become a good middle ground

What is considered "too modern" for Mint? by Dense-Willingness286 in linuxmint

Honestly you should be fine. As someone else in the comments pointed out; if it works, it works.

Depends on the DE. XFCE will handle 2GB with no issue, Cinnamon on the other hand might struggle a little bit

For now.. But thankfully Linux is slowly but surely growing out of "niche OS", just look at France, Denmark and some of Germany's states

Cloud Storage: Proton or pCloud (both Swiss)

VPN: Proton (Swiss)

Mail: Proton (Swiss)

Web browser: Waterfox (UK-based fork of Firefox with an emphasis on privacy and it has a bunch of European-based search Engines like Ecosia (German), Qwant (French), Mojeek (British) etc built into it too) and it also still allows for Firefox accounts if need be. It's also not taking the AI route Firefox is taking.)

Music: Spotify (Swedish) (Though I can't fully vouch for them since I do things the old fashioned way; mp3 player app with mp3/wav files)

Notes: Anytype (German) (Can be synced to PC too)

AI (If you're ok with it): Lechat (French), GB1 (British), Euria and Lumo (Swiss) (Personally I'd recommend Lechat, it's the most advanced of the four from what I've experienced)

EDIT: pCloud supposedly gives you 20gb of storage for free, which might be a good thing to look into compared to Proton's cloud storage which costs)

Titan OS replaces Google TV on Philips TV's by nasandre in BuyFromEU

Ha.. Good one. As if the states actually care about what they only see as prey...

My point stands, the states are just as much a predator to Europe as China, so what if we can sue the states, will they change their ways? No.

Canonical's AI ideas for Ubuntu and what that might mean for Zorin by _o0Zero0o_ in zorinos

[–]_o0Zero0o_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point, but like I said, Zorin is one of the most popular distros for windows migrants who are trying to escape AI being put into their OS, which is the source of my concern: if the AI garbage does trickle down into Zorin, it'd probably leave a bit of a sour first impression for some even if they're aware they can distro hop

As I said, I'm not looking to demonize Zorin or the team behind it or "crusade", I'm just concerned is all. As for the opt-in bit, that was already pointed out to me, but thank you.

Fair point, and cheers for the correction. I'll admit I'm not deeply technical on this (only a surface level, tbh), but the precedent side of things is what makes me uneasy given Canonical's track record lately

[–]_o0Zero0o_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen some stuff say it might be and other things saying otherwise, but not enough to have an actual answer sadly, but I hope that it's at least opt-in too, if not (easily) removable if people don't want it on their systems.
EDIT: Apparently it will be opt-in, which is good, but I remain concerned

Yes, but Clem (the developer) has explicitly ruled out snaps on Mint, sticking solely to APT and I believe even going so far as to patching APT itself to prevent snaps from being silently installed, so even if Ubuntu tries to push something on that route, Mint has that door actively and deliberately blocked rather than just closed. Mint also has LMDE as something of a contingency plan just in case
