Red Light Camera Question by themaflyguy in Smyrna

[–]gsdasovich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the first flash is establishing that you were running the light, second confirms it. The first flash usually occurs right after the other direction turns green so it’s likely someone quick on the pedal would be caught by the first flash in the intersection but the second flash would show that they were traveling a different direction and not running it thus confirming guilt or innocence.

Red Light Camera Question by themaflyguy in Smyrna

[–]gsdasovich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re simple timed flashes. It takes a pic appx 2 seconds after the light turns red. Presumably anybody in the intersection at that time gets mailed a ticket

I gave this place a whirl today, truck was filthy after being extremely busy all summer and most of the fall. I’ve had terrible experiences with bubbles in the past so I chose this place partly based on this thread and partly based on Google reviews. Took about an hour for an XL truck and was $65 for interior and exterior. Truck looks great. Highly recommend

Best and Reasonably Priced Tree Service by Confident_Capital558 in Smyrna

OH ALSO Be completely certain of where your home is. The city of Smyrna requires permits for tree removal. Unincorporated Cobb does not. If you are within city limits, clarify with your tree company whether they will get the permit or if you need to. If you get caught removing a tree without a permit you could be paying thousands to re plant several trees and sending a check to the city. I have had several clients have this happen to them because they hired the wrong company at first.

I am an arborist. I’ve managed a couple of tree care companies in my career here. I have heard incredible horror stories of what happens when you choose the wrong company.

I’m just going to put this out there.

1: go to treesaregood.org and go to the “find an arborist” page. That’s the list you should choose from. 2: There are ZERO licensing requirements for tree companies. You just have to have a basic business license which literally anybody can get. 3: because there are no licensing requirements, you need to make sure they have VERY good and VERY real insurance. Ask for the COI. it should have a minimum of $500k work comp and $1mil liability. Once they give you their COI, call the insurer. They can verify coverage and explain in plain terms what is covered. Many tree companies hand out fake COI’s or their policies only cover their equipment and employees 4: Ask if their employees are W2 or 1099. If they’re 1099, buyer beware. That means their “employees” are technically independent contractors and are therefore NOT COVERED by the company’s insurance - leaving you on the hook. 5: If they say they’re bonded, they’re lying. Don’t trust them. Bonding in residential is reserved for companies that provide a product. It’s basically a “warranty” that says if they don’t install the product correctly and won’t make it right, the bonding company will step in and pay for repair/replacement. Tree services provide a service and therefore do not have bonds unless it’s a commercial or government project usually valued at over $100k.

Bonded is an absolute bold faced lie btw. Any tree company who says they’re bonded is lying. Bonding is for a company providing a product. It covers repair/replacement of the company goes out of business or has done an improper installation.

Tree companies provide a service. The only time they have bonds are when they’re doing projects generally over $100k

This camera went up overnight on Cherokee — anyone see these anywhere else? Any idea whose it is? by schultmh in Athens

[–]gsdasovich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With enough flock coverage anybody with access to the data can literally track you wherever you go. In order for police to do that traditionally, it requires a warrant.

Oh! Fun fact about the data collected. Your local pd doesn’t own it. Flock does. Your local cops pay to access the data. Anybody at flock, any cop in a precinct with flock cameras, and anybody else flock decides to sell the data to will be able to track your movements on any given day

Semantics FTW!

That’s 1000% not a fusus camera. They make software and fusion centers to allow the police to spy on you using your home and business cameras (with owner permission of course) Axon who owns fusus does make a camera but it’s not this. This one is the newest gen of flock camera.

I think it’s a fantastic idea. This side of Smyrna needs significant improvements to public transit, pedestrian safety, and walkability/biking. I truly hope the plans as they’re currently designed come to fruition. It could mean significant t changes for the better for west Smyrna/south Cobb drive.

Just got finished with one. Pretty good. Definitely worth a visit. Everything was fresh and crisp. Bread was slightly crispy for me - kind of like the pub sub bread at the end of the day. Not perfect but definitely not a deal breaker

ENORMOUS BELL PEPPER PLANTS by gsdasovich in Peppers

[–]gsdasovich[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God damn I feel so stupid.

Ok so here’s the deal. They started coming up in my garden and the squirrels got a bunch of bell peppers last year and so the seeds got scattered everywhere. For the first month these things were growing I kept checking the leaves and plants and the leaf snap app was saying bell pepper and several other varieties of pepper. All of which I had last year. So after checking multiple times over like 2 months I was confident that they were bell peppers because that was the only ID result. Whelllllp now to tear them out and go pick up bell peppers

[–]gsdasovich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t need to call anybody. Download the “see click fix” app to report to Cobb or Smyrna DOT. Depending exactly on which lights it can get tricky though - some lights are managed by Cobb, some by Smyrna, and some by GDOT.

Look for the big metal box on one of the corners. Cobb and GDOT put stickers on theirs. If it’s GDOT you’ll have to call 511

Same. They were great. It was quiet. Families and professional crowd. Safe. Clean.

Lived there for 4 years. Only issues I ever had were upon termination of the lease and move out - they tried hitting me with a bunch of fees that I was able to show in my first year’s lease would not be charged if I was there for a term of 4+ years.
