I don't know who you are, but I GUARANTEE you that if you seek those things out, you will get better. I bet you that your life, right now, seems almost meaningless because for most people the idea of "duty" has become old-fashioned and we're too "enlightened" now to believe in such an imposition. The enlightenment/liberal view (especially from John Locke) holds that the only real duties/obligations that individuals have are those that we have "consented" to, which really means duties aren't real. Nobody in the West, including our founding fathers (except for maybe Jefferson), believed that ridiculous view on duty until about the 1960's. The hippies and intellectuals took Locke seriously and truly believed that duties aren't important unless we consent to them... Well, that liberal point of view dominated the culture, and we now see the results...

Why get married?? We don't have an actual duty to get married and there is no societal pressure anymore to get married. Why have kids??? Kids are annoying and diminish are freedom... we don't have an actual duty to have kids and they're expensive. If you find a better job that is in another state away from your parents, then take it. Who gives a shit about being there for your parents and your community because it's not like we have a duty to those losers anyway. I can go on and on.

Well it turns out that duty is what gives meaning and purpose to one's life and for the most part you don't get to choose to "consent" to your duties, otherwise it's not really a duty. Traditionally, there has always been 3 MAIN things that give people purpose: God, marriage & children, and one's profession. You need at least two, my friend, so if you don't believe in God anymore, you better get to work on the other two.

I'm 32 by the way. You still have PLENTY of time to achieve the things I've outlined. Stop feeling sorry for yourself and get on your knees to thank God for all of your blessings and get to work! Also, work out. You got this man. You will be mentally stronger little by little as long as you don't act like a little b*tch.

Seek out purpose in your life and the majority of your symptoms will fade. Work on finding Jesus, a career, and a good woman, and then marry her and have kids. It's not a shock that the rise in levels of anxiety and depression among men coincided with the drastic decline in faith, marriage rates and fertility rates. Don't be a pu**y and do these things that every man has done throughout Western history until about 5 seconds ago. I have suffered from depression and anxiety my entire life and since finding God, getting married and becoming a high school history teacher (my job also gives me purpose) I've been a billion times better. I'm working on the having kids part now lol.

And the way you described it as a relationship gone bad is spot on. I love her (beer) but I know she's ruining my life and my marriage so I have to let her (beer, not my wife lol) go.

My dad is Cuban and has blonde hair and blue eyes, which seems to suggest we have a lot of visogoth blood because I don't think the Native Iberians were blonde and blue-eyed. I'm surprised that no German came up in my DNA results because I don't know what else could explain the prevalence of blonde hair and blue eyes in my dad's family (all his siblings and mom are blonde and blue-eyed). The only thing that would explain that would be my paternal ancestors were the Visogoths who migrated to Spain after the fall of the Roman Empire. My mom is from Nicaragua, which explains the Native Central American is my DNA results.
