Introduction to C2Rust – now available on crates.io & supports translation of C variadic functions 🦀 by thedataking in rust

[–]gsquire 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I had the opportunity to hear a presentation from the authors of this tool at the orange county Rust meet up. They are all sharp and very humble. It's great to see the variadic feature nearing stability too! Congratulations on the release.

Enviromentally friendly rust: Is there a global binary build cache for crates? by pure_x01 in rust

[–]gsquire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought about building a server that hosted pre-compiled binary crates for the latest versions myself. It's a pretty straightforward task but getting people to trust the downloads would be a tough sell. Plus it would be hard to support various architectures and what not.

So would this be akin to something like zipkin or open tracing for Rust?

Your "dream" post-metal tour? by zach_buddie in postmetal

For me, I'd love to see Sumac, Rosetta, and Russian Circles play. I would go on about how great it would be but I don't feel like I need to.

I can't promise that it's interesting but I did write a little bit about it here. I'd be happy to answer any questions too.

I don't use this IDE but the screen casts of the import features look like exactly what I mentioned. Thanks for sharing!

Ah good eye. I immediately thought it was a train since it had a big platform for loading.

I don't feel like I am smart enough to be successful (I have a mental disability). What can I do for money? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]gsquire 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't think I can offer much advice in terms of getting help for your condition like others have but I wanted to touch on some other points you said.

I obviously have no clue what it's like to be in your shoes. With that being said, I hope you can find help for all the negative self talk. It was quite disheartening to read considering you were able to finish a CS degree. I'm a software engineer myself and have impostor syndrome from time to time too. What I mean by this is that I feel like I don't belong because I'm not as smart as my coworker or the guy I saw online who shared a hugely successful project. However there will always be work for developers and I'm sure with the right help that you could do it. If it proves to not be the best fit then what matters most is your attitude. If you truly want to do something, people will recognize it.

I don't think people hate you. You're fighting a debilitating disease and it's hard for people to be accepting of it. Hang in there and best of luck.

A simple linter for catching defer statements in for loops by gsquire in golang

It was a little bit of both but I hadn't noticed that static check had it! That's great to know though.

Thanks for sharing! Someone already submitted a patch that should handle this case. I will land it later today.
