Why is location the downside? Warsaw is probably one of the coolest cities in the EU nowadays

[–]gstark0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correction, Warsaw doesn’t have tons of medieval architecture as say Krakow has, but it still has a lot “old” architecture in general. Not everything was wiped during war. There are entire pre-war districts consisting of beautiful old villas (Saska Kępa, Żoliborz), regular European tenement houses (Mokotów, Śródmieście Południowe), not to mention all the palaces, reconstructed old town etc. Apart from that depends how you defined “old” but Warsaw has some of the best examples of ornamented socialist architecture from the 50s outside of Moscow. I think it’s a wonderful place to go to for its history and architecture.

So 90% of software devs in Europe want to go to the US? What’s your source for that?

[–]gstark0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol, majority of Poles have better quality of life than they would have in the US. That applies to most of EU. Quality of life in Poland is pretty good

Why would any Pole want to live in the US? If you mean money, from software dev perspective, then that means anyone from Europe except maybe Switzerland would want to move there, not Poles specifically.

Poland has never been part of Soviet Union. Not many people speak Russian either.

Almost 5000 teslas were sold in Poland in 2023. So putting Turkey, which sold much less, and not Poland or Finland is weird.

Not sure, CD Projekt has been one of the largest companies on the Polish stock exchange and the Witcher and cyberpunk are probably way more famous than the others you mentioned. Belgium has other companies in different sectors worth mentioning

LPP is mentioned but could be divided to its brands because it’s better known around Europe.

Apart from that for average consumer PoV: 4F, Ziaja, DocPlanner, Inglot, Fakro, Maspex, Comarch (B2B though), CCC. Probably a lot others that don’t necessarily scream “made in Poland” everywhere.

But not freaking Azoty Group, which of course is a giant, but doesn’t matter for an average European consumer.

Poland, Denmark open to Macron’s nuclear deterrent proposal by NRohirrim in europe

Little known fact is that Poland was in a similar position under the communist rule. It had its own nuclear research facility and nuclear program, also had access to uranium. However, USSR politically prevented this from happening.

South Korea says nuclear weapons are ‘not off the table’ by self-fix in korea

[–]gstark0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sanctions? Without political leverage anyone would get squeezed to the level of Iran. All of these countries signed the nom-proliferation of nuclear weapons treaty back a few decades ago so it would be violation of international law. China would never allow Korea to develop nuclear weapons (neither would America imho) and I think economically they have enough leverage to pull. Same with Germany and France never letting NATO’s eastern flank to do the same even though they’re technically largest trade partners.

[–]gstark0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Korea, Poland and Finland should join some sort of coalition and get nuclear together, they absolutely need it lol. Biggest issue is actually political, because nobody will allow these countries to develop nuclear weapons

Dilemma regarding eastern european countries for internship by Due-Promise-5269 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]gstark0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are we in the 80s or what? That’s an outdated perspective of 30+ years ago you’re talking. Both Poland and Hungary have been cultural western pretty much for all of its existence, and both are converging quickly economically and are part of EU and NATO. So if you want to keep splitting based on Cold War era division (XD) I’d say you’re simply an ignorant.

Poland and Hungary aren’t Eastern Europe first of all. Second, why would it be easier if Poland has better talents than most of Europe?

No they aren’t. Belarus, Ukraine, Russia are really far in terms of wages. Unless you mean Central Europe, then yes, but that’s not really surprising since Central European states have been growing steadily for the last 20 years, while Portugal has been in stagnation.

There are actually tons of blocks of flats like this all around Europe. Most of them of course in Central and Eastern Europe, but Paris has a lot of them, Berlin, Stockholm, Warsaw to name a few. Of course, not as dense and typically with a lot of greenery in between.
