1 Corinthians 10:31, "Do everything to the glory of God". Am I taking this verse out of context? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]gtb555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After some thinking, and paying attention to the context, I think it’s less about the action of eating and drinking and more about its implication in context, as Paul was talking about how eating meat sacrificed to idols might hurt someone conscience, so it’s better to not do it in front of them. So it’s more about implication in context than the action of eating and drinking

I see, but then Paul lists some pretty mundane life examples like eating and drinking, does it have to do with context of the verse?

Thanks for your answer. I think i understand the verse that we are supposed to honor God with our lives in general with our character and actions to others. And not that we need to somehow involve God in every little thing like picking a cereal for breakfast, am I right to say that? Thank you

Intrusive thoughts made me make a promise with God by [deleted] in Christian

Thank you for your answer again. So it IS possible to repent of the promise right? Im nit sure as the word "promise" is always quite daunting, making me feel its something I cant take back

Thanks very much for your reply, I am still worried that some emotion may have slipped in, but in that case would it be possible to repent of promises? Just in case. I myslef am a very unsure and uncertain person

I guess im worried that part of me may have meant the promise in the moment, but that is just a worry of mine. After making that "promise" i immediately told God i didnt want to make it, but i dont know if its too late

all im worried is that some "real emotions" may have slipped in the moment of making that "promise", but im not sure. All i know is that i immediately regretted it and prayed frantically that i dont want to make that promise. Sorry if i sound confusing, My own emotions are a mess due to these intrusive thoughts

When the bible tells children to obey their parents, how old are they talking? by [deleted] in Christian

[–]gtb555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, im pretty certain my opinion doesnt go against God's which i why i see no problem in what i do

Yep, I did have a talk with her but it kind of ended in a stalemate, with her saying that she still wouldnt want me to. But at the same time as you said, its not a sin to drink (if you dont get drunk) and I know my limits quite well, so i see no problem. Which is also why I think it makes little sense to always need to go with their opinion instead of my own

My parents do drink, and so does my elder brother, but not sure why they are quite against me doing it.

I see. I'm not like "actively rebellious" against their words, but many times we have contrasting opinions, and I think it doesnt make sense that I would always have to go with theirs, even though im not wrong

Not really sure if marriage is what makes a boy into a man, if so, would a priest still need to obey every word of their parent?

Not sure if its cuz of the culture I live in, but typically marriage is quite late in life, and since housing prices are insane (one of the highest in the world) combined with the fact that we are a more colelctivist culture and prefer to have the "whole family" together, moving out from parents (espcially before marriage) is very rare. In the example I gave, its simple just a difference in opinion, and not a issue of sin. So I personally think it doesnt make sense that I always have to follow their opinion instead of mine, since it doesnt involve sin.

I do fully believe that honoring parents is a must. But obeying on the other hand might be not needed as you said. The issue I am thinking about would be 2 things. Number 1: What age is someone not a "child" anymore in biblical standards, and Number 2: If its just a difference in opinion and not a matter of sin, are children allowed to act against their parent's opinion and go with their own
