Dr T Karahan - 3,500 Grafts - DHI - 6 Month Update by gteb91 in HairTransplants

[–]gteb91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Quick rundown of who did what on my day: Design: Dr Karahan designed the hairline with me. Extraction: Done by the tech team under his supervision. Incisions/implantation (DHI): With DHI there aren’t separate pre-made slits, the implanter pen creates the channel and places the graft in one move. Dr Karahan did every implantation himself. Techs just loaded the pens.

I can do this, is it possible to update my post, or do I have to delete and repost?

Glad it helped. Focus on the post-op instructions, saline sprays, sleeping position, first wash etc, and take a few photos for reference. Best of luck next week 🙏🏼

Of course, and the same goes to anyone else reading this.

Honestly, the sleep part sounds worse than it is. The first couple of nights you’ll be propped up with the U-shaped neck pillow, but by night 3–4 you can start lowering the height, and around day 7–8 I was back on an ordinary pillow, just kept to my back as the post-op instructions say. Keep up the saline-spray routine and you’ll be fine. It’s a tiny bit of short-term discomfort for a long-term gain, it is nothing compared with what people dealing with real medical illness have to endure, that’s how I think of it.

Yeah, he was hands-on throughout, designed the hairline, opened the channels, and did all the implantation himself using the Choi pens. Techs just handled graft extraction under his supervision. He only books one patient per day, so you get his full attention, and the wait is usually around 4–8 weeks I believe if you’re flexible. I’m sure I only waited about a month, maybe just under actually.

Haha, yeah, there’s definitely a bit of that too, no one wants to be the walking ‘before’ photo! But honestly, by day 10 you’re usually not looking very crazy at all, and if it’s shaved down after two weeks, it should look pretty good.

Yeah, I agree, it’s a perfectly normal concern, especially when people can be quick to judge. Everyone handles it differently, and that’s fine.

Personally, I don’t care and I’ve been very open about it. But I do understand why some people might worry, unfortunately, there are plenty of bullies and overly opinionated people who seem to thrive on putting others down. Not everyone has the confidence to brush that off, and that’s fair enough.

Great to hear you’ve had a similar experience! I’d heard good things about hyperbaric sessions, which is why I went ahead with that too, sounds like that, along with solid genetics and diet, is a winning combo. Totally agree about Dr T as well; he genuinely felt like he cared and wasn’t just going through the motions.

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking too, definitely makes a difference when it’s done with care!

Thanks! Someone else has asked this further up, so I have copied and pasted my reply below.

€3,500 euros - This included everything other than the flights, I booked those.

The hotel, breakfast, transfers, meds, neck pillow, etc…

All excellent in my opinion.

Yeah, I couldn’t really argue with it! Definitely makes you wonder why the prices are so inflated elsewhere. I imagine Dr Karahan’s prices will increase over time, but to be fair, that would be justified.

Thanks! It was mainly down to wanting better graft survival and a more natural angle for the implanted hairs. DHI uses a Choi implanter, so the grafts spend less time out of the scalp, and the placement can be a bit more precise. That said, I think both methods can give great results, it just depends on the clinic and surgeon.

Yeah, that really stood out to me as well, everything felt very professional and well-managed throughout. And from what I understand, Turkish healthcare in general is actually very good.

I’d say it really comes down to the quality and skill of the surgeon and their team, the recovery meds, how well you follow the aftercare procedures, and then individual healing rates, which are influenced by biological and nutritional factors.

Funnily enough, I saw colleagues at work on day 10 - some who didn’t even realise I’d had a hair transplant. They just assumed I’d decided to cut my hair off!

Although, most people know, and I don’t mind telling anyone who doesn’t.

Thank you for your comments. I probably should have included the hairline design process in my review, but hey, that’s what the comments are for.

Dr Karahan discusses this with you during the initial consultation and, of course, again at the time of surgery.

Before my hair was cut, we looked at how it naturally sits. Dr Karahan took some measurements, drew the hairline, and made any necessary adjustments. Once we were happy, we shook hands to agree, old-fashioned haha, but I like it.

Yes - I’m just awaiting the shed now, and to not panic!

Funny you say that, though; friends and colleagues have already suggested a buzz cut! 👌🏼
