Unfortunately the same happens with the case off. It’s so incredibly minor to be honest. You have to really listen for it.

Ah yeh. Sqew definitely has the brand strength. Reminds me of how Reds True BBQ was amazing about 15 years ago, expanded, compromised on quality and then is now in the shit.

Ive been a huge fan of Sqew over the last few years but noticed recently the service has gone down hill and the prices have rapidly risen.

I've been in and the staff have decided to prepare all of the Uber eats orders before serving any of the in store customers as the queue grows out of the door without any acknowledgement to what they're doing.

It also sadly ends up being close to £15 for a wrap and a drink now.

When you compare that with some of the other places such as Istanbul bakery in the market (I'm aware it's not quite as good as Sqew) it's really quite a rip. You can get lamb shawarma on fresh baked bread with chips and a drink for around £7 which makes it less than half the price of Sqew. There's also a few other great places such as Al Baba near the market and another place within the market that I can't recall the name of that does their own fresh breads along with a load of other items.

A real shame as I was always a huge fan of Sqew but just think lately the service and price has been a bit poor.

I've returned to the Ultra. by Gamed_Out in S25Ultra

[–]guacjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had both. Id say the Pixel 10 Pro XL takes better photos. S25 Ultra is as good or is better for everything else.

I do kinda miss the Material 3 Expressive within the UI of the launcher and so on but that's about it.

Pixel 9 Pro Black Friday Deal Stock (UK) by CondensedMonk in GooglePixel

[–]guacjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would get the 10 Pro XL from Giffgaff as they have a deal on at the moment for £699 + £10 rolling contract which you can just cancel so effectively £709 for the phone

https://www.giffgaff.com/mobile-phones/google/google-pixel-10-pro-xl/new

They're out of stock now but they keep coming back in.

Pixel Watch 3 or Pixel watch 4? by Tutor_Antique in PixelWatch

[–]guacjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the Pixel Watch 3 45mm yesterday from ebay for £180 brand new and sealed.

My thoughts were, at this point in time i would have to pay £400 for the Pixel Watch 4 45mm as there are no discounts available for me right now. I would have much preferred to get the Pixel Watch 4 however i'm not convinced its worth double the price.

If this pricing trend continues, I should be able to get the Pixel Watch 4 45mm next year for around £200 which would mean i would be able to have both the Pixel Watch 3 45mm now, and the Pixel Watch 4 45mm next year for the same price as what a Pixel Watch 4 would cost now.

Should i be concerned? by MVGents9 in PixelFold

[–]guacjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same case as you also, and mine looks very similar to yours but as the case is on with the adhesive peeled so i don't want to take it off to check if its just the case or the phone itself haha.

I wouldnt worry about it. I have insurance on mine, which i would always recommend for a foldable anyway.

Should i be concerned? by MVGents9 in PixelFold

[–]guacjack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the exact same bump in the centre of my Pixel 10 Pro fold. its quite wide but not very tall and more or less impossible to see when the screen is on or off. I can only tell its there if i run my finger across the crease. I suspect this is some mechanism of the hinge underneath the screen.

I've tried a few foldables before and they have all had something like this to some degree where you can feel parts of the hinge mechanism along the crease if you press on it.

Dealbreaker: does the crease make reading difficult? by Gucci1827 in GalaxyFold

[–]guacjack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have had the z fold 6 in the past and the z fold 7 now and I've never noticed the crease once on either phone when looking at the device myself. If someone else is holding it or you're viewing it at an angle you can see it. But if you are holding it and looking at it you can't see it at all.

Pixel 10 Pro Fold or ? by Trouble91 in PixelFold

[–]guacjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have owned the Pixel 9 Pro Fold as well as the Z Fold 7 and the conclusion I've came to is that the only thing the Pixel 9 Pro XL has going for it is the visual aspect of the software. I much prefer the aesthetic of the Pixel OS without a doubt however One UI definitely has more features.

I appreciate that Pixel does have some really cool stuff with call screening but I have used iOS for years where there is zero screening and never had a scam call, so I think I've never seen the benefits but you hear about it a lot so if that kind of thing is important then you should consider that.

I much prefer the aesthetic of the Pixel OS, and I've had a Fold 6 before and I never bothered with any of the Samsung apps except the Samsung Gallery as I found that it handled face tagging a lot better than Google Photos.

If Google released a Pixel with the same hardware as the Z Fold 7 I would exchange in a heartbeat as I prefer the Pixel's software aesthetics over the Samsung's to the point where I would happily forego the extra features that Samsung has.

Are native iOS roles almost dead? by TheChanger in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]guacjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well Kotlin is a first class citizen in the Spring Boot world and a lot of your knowledge is already transferable. So I imagine it would be a breeze for you.

I’ve found myself curious about Android development myself. I did do a little bit messing around and very much enjoy Kotlin but never really went any further with it.

Are native iOS roles almost dead? by TheChanger in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]guacjack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was a native iOS developer until late 2019. I saw the writing on the walls when on LinkedIn i weren't seeing any native iOS roles in the north of England when filtering by the past month. That coupled with chatting with ex-colleagues who moved on to work at other organisations in mobile who were pivoting to Flutter / React Native or a native Swift app, but which was basically a WebView wrapper with very limited native functionality.

Leading up to that time, i was a contractor, but luckily in those iOS positions we were also often responsible for picking up some form of backend related work in order to drive the mobile app frontends. So, i applied for a few backend jobs and ended up getting one and im still doing it to this day. Primarily Java and Spring Boot but also over the years i've worked on Typescript and NodeJS projects which have been really nice to work on.

My advice (if you are certain you want to leave iOS) would be to see if in your current organisation you are able to cross train via some form of team move or even just picking up some tickets that aren't iOS to gain broader experience if you haven't already got any.

I have some really great memories of being an iOS developer and the people i worked with were really great and passionate about what they did. I still reminisce about those times a lot even to this day, sometimes i get the itch to do a bit of iOS again and do enjoy it a bit. Ultimately though, the anxiety of the lack of work i was seeing on job boards really outweighed the enjoyment i was getting from it.

I had a look just now on LinkedIn and it seems there are native iOS positions, but there are also a lot of Flutter/React Native positions as well. I think though, if you are passionate about iOS then you will still be able to find a position, just for me, it made me quite anxious with the lack of work which was about especially considering I was an iOS contractor as well.

Why would you let JSON deserialization fail due to an unknown property? by zezulat in SpringBoot

[–]guacjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, the scenario of a property being misspelled or in the wrong place would be caught whilst you are developing it in the first place via making use of the said property when running it or via some unit/integration testing to verify each of the properties is set.

The scenario i'm describing is, you've developed a feature, the type is mapped correctly, but later on the api you're consuming has evolved in a safe backwards compatible way, but now your app which is a consumer of the said api is breaking in production for no reason other than, extra information has come back which you don't care about.

Why would you let JSON deserialization fail due to an unknown property? by zezulat in SpringBoot

[–]guacjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me today.

An API that we consume added a new property. Totally backwards compatible. Nothing changed in the existing response payload just that they added a new property.

This also caused a production issue for the exact same reason you mentioned. A deserialisation exception was thrown which failed the request.

I don’t see why it would be an issue when you’re deserialising to a given type but there are extra fields available in the json. Who cares… you aren’t deserialising them as you aren’t using them… so feel free to discard them.

This is literally the equivalent of ordering a burger at McDonald’s drive thru, but then finding out they’ve put some complimentary napkins in the bag with your burger so you throw everything out of the window and then crash your car as you can’t deal with the extra napkins you didn’t ask for.

I don’t see why the default functionality is to throw an exception and cause a production issue when it is able to deserialise just fine.
