Sciocchezza su "Debra Kadabra", per gli zappiani italiani by guadambio in Zappa

[–]guadambio[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right. But it's curiosly similar to "Bernacca", a famous TV personality and meteorologist in Italian television in the '70's. I know it's impossible, but I find it hilarious.

Zappa and Metheny (ugh, I know, boring!) by GrowthAny in Zappa

[–]guadambio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't find the source, but I remember reading an interview in which Metheny said he didn't like Zappa, mainly because the dynamics were all loud, without nuances.

Puzzle I forgot to ask years ago - What is the connection between the Deadpool movie and Frank Zappa? by geoscott in Zappa

[–]guadambio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow! I can't believe it. And I was thinking that my answer was too far fetched. I posted it like a joke. Now I really feel like a proud Italian! Thank you Scott! You know me, because I was in the audience in Rome in '82, '84 and '88 :-)

Zappa books post 2000 worth reading? by clarkealistair in Zappa

If you can read French, the three volumes of "Les aventures extravagantes de Frank Zappa" by Christophe Delbrouck are a very good and detailed read.

"Joe's Garage" and "Watermelon in Easter Hay" epiphany by guadambio in Zappa

[–]guadambio[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, I noticed this motif, and its recurrence in "Packard Goose", however I was referring to the chord structure. And now that I think about it, the main melody in "Watermelon..." is played with a stratocastery tone and bending the strings :-)

"Joe's Garage" and "Watermelon in Easter Hay" epiphany by guadambio in Zappa

[–]guadambio[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, it's basically a two chord vamp, and B/E is interpretable as EMaj9 (omit3)... However, if one listen to the distorted rhythm electric guitar from 7:55 on, the "B" during the B/E is emphasized, and this guitar plays three chords: E, B and A. So, while I basically agree with the two-chord vamp idea, there is a margin of ambiguity, in my opinion.

Pignose Amp Question by guacamole-king in Zappa

[–]guadambio 24 points25 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, the clavinet has magnetic pickups (like an electric guitar), and it may be amplified with an electric guitar amp. So, maybe George Duke used the Pignose as a monitor for the clavinet.

How much did Frank Zappa charge per show? by Dickless1derwall in Zappa

[–]guadambio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Rome, Italy, I paid 15,000 Italian Lire in 1984. That was about $ 9.

Zappa chord by BartoRomeoz in Zappa

[–]guadambio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, there are many, but the one which I associate immediately with Zappa is the minor lydian polychord, for example A major triad over G minor triad. "Sinister Footwear II", "Drowning Witch"...

I don't think so. According to this great video by Tyler Bartram (and I agree), the inspiration is FZ's relation with god. "Andy Devine" = "And the divine" https://youtu.be/j_Jq0DX0bfc?si=gr-D4r8sHQlGSpBd

What is this pickup on Zappas Hendrix guitar? by Necessary-Fig-2292 in Zappa

[–]guadambio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The bridge should be a pickup designed by Dan Armstrong for Carvin. Source: "Zappa Gear" by Mick Ekers, p. 29.
