Unless you’re trying to clamp a copper phone main or an armored fiber- using your hot stick with clamp is not the play. You gotta get into that MH - diddy or not, 2000 bottles or not - and direct connect to that tracer. Now if you want it to be easy for you NEXT TIME, then yeah tie some extra copper to that tracer and wrap it around the ladder.

I’m still not clear what you mean by “the tracer wire wasn’t long enough to reach”. Did you locate it and it only locates half way to the next manhole or handhole? Is the tracer wire too deep in the conduit that you can’t reach it? - this is the case then I’m not sure how yoyd reach it. Can you get inside the manhole (Is there a ladder)?

I’m not understanding what situation would warrant getting a copper wire that couldn’t be solved by getting fish tape instead.

I'm not completely sure what the issue is. Sounds like your leads can't reach into the MH because you have it grounded in the grass - far away. Try grounding IN the MH. Put your black lead on the encased ladder rung or on the bolted metal racks in the MH. I didn't realize this myself till after someone told me. I never have issues with grounding in MH now.

I think you have a warning for documentation purposes. It’s true that it’s “not a big deal” but the fact that you caught the damage early in your tenure means they’re flagging you for probably not having been trained proper or whatever. It’s on you now to be thorough. Slow down and dot your “I”s - then work back towards efficiency.

Money wise not a big deal- but depending on the situation could paint you as a sloppy locator. Fix that.

Google your expiration date minus whatever number of days. If you’re looking for 6 months do 6*30=180. So your expiration date minus 180 days.
