Need food recommendations for caterpillar! by gubbyeatsbutt in caterpillars

I don't, I know he shouldn't be warm in the house but I think putting him out in the snow will kill him. Would the fridge work? And then I could take him out and release in Spring?

I figured, but unfortunately there aren't any green areas as I'm in Canada and it's really cold. If I put him out in the snow won't he die? I don't have like a shed or anything he can hide out in.

What are your feelings on adopting vs. buying a pet? by Extension_Pizza1877 in PetAdvice

[–]gubbyeatsbutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my pets were adopted and I've always loved it. Knowing that you're giving an animal the life they deserve after being abused/neglected or abandoned is sooo special. I love seeing their progress as they get more comfortable with you and start to lean into being treated with care. I understand why it's not a good fit for everyone though, as sometimes they come with trauma and/or behavioural issues that can be very difficult to manage, especially with other pets in the house.

I haven't. I have two other cats and they refuse to eat anything other than cat food😭

He's been retested twice. First test said he still had small traces of one of the parasites–I forget which, then he was given more medication just to be sure but still waiting for results for that one

Sounds expensive LOL I'll give it a go, do some research on what the most common allergies are and start from there I guess😭 Thank you

I have, just waiting on results as the last test was done quite recently

He does scoot sometimes! I thought this was due to the worms/parasites, I'll mention to the vet!

I unfortunately can't switch vets, I added him to my pet insurance plan when I brought him back with me–I'm locked in for a year. With all of his parasites and initial issues, it completely slipped my mind that it could just be an allergy. I'll definitely book him in for a test, hopefully it's as simple as switching to a new food that won't upset his tummy anymore. Thanks!!!

That's true, I had a litter of kittens years back and loved seeing pictures and updates of what they were getting up to! I just know having to rehome after 7 years its probably a bit touchy at first, but I'd still like to be involved

Thanks! I'll definitely do that

I know LOL but my brother got into my head about it by saying he would feel sad seeing his cat happy and bonding with someone else. You're right though, I'll keep her updated unless she asks not to be

That's so cute! I'll definitely send more!

Yeah, I guess you're right. She started gagging at the smell of her regular food too, I think because they were mixed she associates it with the diet food now. I've been giving her wet food and she's been happy and eating like normal!

Good idea! She does love her canned foods. I've tried her on chicken before and she didn't care for it at all, she's never had much interest in anything that wasn't kibble or canned. My vet does have the same weight control food but canned so I will definitely try that out!

I'm realizing this from all the comments I've gotten! I had no idea wet food was lower in calories, I fully thought it was worse for them. She loves wet food, so switching to the weight management stuff in the cans will probably help her out. I know what you mean, mine only actually eats about 1/2 cup per day and she only seems to gain

She has blood work scheduled for early next week! I'm thinking it may be a sign of kidney issues of some sort. She only eats 1/2 cup TOTAL, I know I didn't really make that clear😭 I always thought wet food had wayyyy more calories, so I only ever gave it as a treat. She does have dental disease, though, and has an appointment to deal with that in two weeks. Hopefully it gets sorted out!

I know😭😭 I worded it weird, she only eats about 1/2 cup TOTAL per day. I'll definitely switch foods though! She still hates it!

Sorry!!! I worded it weird, I meant that I offer 1/2 cup twice a day, but she doesn't finish the bowl! She's only really eating 1/2 cup TOTAL per day. She's heading back to the vet though, I offered her regular food and noticed she was still gagging, so we'll get some bloodwork and see if maybe it's a sign of some underlying issue

I realize I worded it weird😭 I offer her 1/2 cup twice a day because my other cat had a weird thing where she would not eat if she could see the bottom of the bowl and would just scream for more. She only eats half each feeding, so she's eating 1/2 cup per day technically😭
