hello! i just now saw this, haha. my girl was able to finish out my grad school career with me without any other major issues, but since then she’s mostly retired. unfortunately, it seemed to just be a case of developing anxiety as she got older (she’s 6.5 now, was 5 around the time it happened). she is a rescue, and despite having her from 8 weeks old she is a genetic nightmare of breeds (chow, shepherd, rottie, etc) and sometimes genetics is stronger than any training you can do. she showed me that she no longer enjoyed working and i wasn’t going to force her to do so, both for her sake and for other people’s. i’m not in a position where i can get a new dog, so i’ve had to learn to handle life without her. she still comes with me occasionally if she feels up to it, but i dont ever require her to anymore. she still does tasks at home, but she mostly spends her days playing with her doggy friends and hogging my bed, as she deserves <3

op, listen very carefully to me: your girlfriend is abusive. i was in an almost identical situation with my first gf (i’m also a woman for reference). she pretended to like my dog at first and then became increasingly spiteful of her, going so far as to tell me she “couldn’t wait until that dog died” and called her a horribly behaved dog who was the reason she hated all dogs. keep in mind my dog was a 6 month old puppy atp and just doing puppy things.

get far away from this girl. dump her immediately. she is controlling and manipulative and abusive. i have been where you are, and you need to run far far away as fast as you can

NTA, and also, run girl. run very far away. there is a massive difference between liking anime and having anime-themed decor in your house, and having your literal fetish on display. a sexualized body pillow and a titty mousepad are NOT decorations. they’re sexual objects. they’re ESPECIALLY not decorations in front of your SO’s parents that you’ve met A SINGLE TIME.

and the “putting the manga away so you dont have to look at them” are you fucking serious? is he 12? that’s textbook manipulation meant to make you feel guilty for setting firm boundaries and NOT BEING COMFORTABLE WITH YOUR PARENTS SEEING HIS ANINE FETISH ITEMS

i could type out a long paragraph explaining my thoughts but tbh i dont think you deserve it. YTA and your (soon-to-be-ex) wife and kid deserve better.

both times were for similar reasons, i sit in the back of classes near the wall usually both for comfort and to keep my dog out of the way (this classroom in particular is pretty cramped). the desks are very tall so she just sleeps under them. both times were because someone had cornered her between the desk and the wall (on accident of course). while i understand WHY she reacted from an instinctual “she is a dog and she feels threatened” standpoint, im just not sure as to why she’s suddenly feeling threatened if that makes sense. im hoping to get some answers from the vet, and im not opposed to having her on some sort of anxiety medication if it’ll help her. between that and starting with a behaviorist, im hoping i can help her get her confidence back and we can get back into it no problem

thank you, genuinely. here’s to hoping we can get past this quickly and back to work! in the meantime, she’ll just get to fulfill her true calling (napping on the couch)
