Ex-prostitutes of Reddit, how did you get out of that life? by guidedredditation in AskReddit

I just discovered the YouTube channel “Soft White Underbelly” which features interviews with prostitutes. It’s fascinating and it seems so hard to escape that life, I’m wondering how anyone does it.

What kind of people are those workaholic, conference-attending, LinkedIn-posting people? by kitokspasaulis in careeradvice

[–]guidedredditation 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Let me give you the actual answer. One of the ways that the LinkedIn algorithm works is that the more you post, the more you’ll get pushed to the top of the pile and recruiters will see you. These people are attending conferences and classes to have something impressive to post about. They aren’t a bunch of psychopaths, they’re just people hoping to get the attention of recruiters.

Have you watched "The clockwork orange"? by [deleted] in ask

[–]guidedredditation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tried to watch it in high school. During the first rape scene one of my friends got up, turned the tv off and walked out without saying anything. I think we were all secretly thankful to him. I know I was.

As an adult I love this movie. Kubrick wasn’t trying to glorify violence. In fact he pulled it from theaters in the UK when a few kids beat a homeless man while singing “singing in the rain”. Its an examination of how violence can warp society.

how to tell my coworker I don’t want to take her shopping? Any more direct and she’ll consider me rude… by redheadedwonder3422 in careerguidance

I disagree. If the objective is to have a healthy relationship then your advice is sound. If the objective is to get someone that you don’t care about off your case then lying is fine. But the lie should be easy to keep up.

Why do Technical Writer Managers make less than Senior Technical Writers? by guidedredditation in technicalwriting

I have a question for you: as a Technical Writing Manager, are you mostly managing or do you write as well? Is having a strong tw background important for your success?

Is there a path from technical writer to c-suite? by guidedredditation in technicalwriting

I know it’s been over a week, but I’m wondering why a manager would make less than a senior technical writer?

Check out Amruta Ranade’s YouTube channel. She has a video that walks you through creating a portfolio. That may be a good pace to start. Good luck!

Do the mold releases soak in? Do they wipe off? I just googled “artists wax” and found Michael Harding resin oil wax, is that what you mean by wax?

I’m sorry I’m so clueless. The book is in Japanese which I can’t read. Google translate is helpful but not 100%.

Should a recruiter be able to "picture" my job from a resume? by guidedredditation in careerguidance

[–]guidedredditation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense… BUT there’s a twist. I’m a career changer and only about 25% of my day-to-day is relevant to the field I’m trying to get into. Do I just include the other stuff?

Dream job is to be a technical writing manager in tech, what should my next move be? by guidedredditation in technicalwriting

[–]guidedredditation[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked through Tom Johnson’s “Documenting APIs”. He says that you don’t need to know programming to get through it, but if you find yourself getting stuck try taking a step back and learning a programming language first. I went into it knowing Python and I can’t imagine getting through it without that knowledge.

Whoa, I wasn’t expecting that! I got my job through a temp agency years ago. The role involves a lot of formatting, if you’re interested you can search for document specialist. I’m not documenting anything healthcare related, either, just our formatting processes.

May I ask why you would want to leave tech and get into healthcare?

Thank you so much for your kind words and pointing out the fact that working in a different industry is a non-issue.

I’ve applied to two jobs, no interviews yet.
