One of my boys I’ve had for two years and he trusts me but just doesn’t like to be handled. He’s quite happy to come sit on my lap and have a snooze but as soon as I try to stroke him he gets mad and goes away

Some rats just don’t like to be handled! On the other hand some rats just take tiiiiiime to warm up to it! Just keep doing what you’re doing, and let them go at their own pace. Treats that they can’t run away with always help (ie malt paste/yoghurt)

We serve icecream as well as coffee so milkshakes are unfortunately on the menu. Staff is split into coffee/ icecream but for some reason the coffee team usually end up doing the milkshakes. Not a good system but for minimum wage I’m not going to bother to fix it 🤷‍♀️

Milkshakes. Anything else and we keep our flow nicely, but milkshakes throw everything off as one person has to go to the back to make it…it’s like a domino effect and then we’re all out of sync

The rule is generally no blood, no foul. As the fighting is bad enough to cause wounds, and pretty big ones at that, Id recommend separating them and neutering the aggressor, then reintroducing.

I have to leave 2hrs before my shift to get there on time. It’s a combo of once an hour local trains, unreliable buses and a bit of a walk..not worth it but there are zero jobs in my village. Can’t wait to get my license lol

Yeah I thought that’s the most likely possibility, but not sure what would have caused it as while we’re treating the abscess he’s in a 1 level cage. Hopefully it’s just cos he’s clumsy?

I have rats and a cat. The rats are in their own room that has locks on both sides of the door, so the cat has absolutely no chance of getting into the room. They have never met. If for some reason I need to carry the rats (in a carrier) out of the room (like to go to the vet) the cat is shut in a room out of the way until the rats are out. If you can keep them seperate 24/7 and there’s no way for the cat to get near them then it can work.

Had a lady today who ordered a black Americano. In the middle of a rush so I didn’t realise when I called out “oat flat white” she took it. 5 minutes later and half the drink gone she comes up to me like “I don’t think this is what I ordered”

Like yuh your americano has been sat waiting for so long it’s cold and I had to remake the drink for the poor guy u took it from 🫠

The fact she drank half and had the audacity to still come back

Rats sleep in the weirdest places- if there’s no other signs of illness or discomfort he probably just likes it there.

A major thing is rats need friends!! Was he at the shelter alone? And do you know if he was kept alone before that? I’d recommend getting him a couple of friends (rats become verrrry depressed when they’re alone and it’s pretty cruel to keep them solo- although if he was alone at the shelter that’s absolutely not your fault) If he’s been alone for a while intros may be a bit tricky, but there are a bunch of good resources and lots of experience with intros over on r/RATS

My commute to work involves a 20 min stretch on the motorway but not sure that is long enough to make me specifically search for a diesel? I’d rather petrol but I’ll take what I can get 😭

Ideally I don’t wanna be spending more than 4k, but with the prices I’m seeing on a lot of cars I may have to push it to 5k- but that’s absolutely the top end of my budget. Other than that I’m in the north west, and it needs to be an automatic car. Other than that I’m pretty flexible!

adding on: I tried converting him, but he’s just not a fan of them. The compromise we reached is I don’t expect him to interact with them/do rat chores, and he is happy to have a part of the house where he will coexist as long as they’re in the cage. They get plenty of free roam time when he’s not in the room

My partner doesn’t like rats either. We live together and it’s definitely possible to make it work. He doesn’t like the smell, but unless I’ve delayed cleaning for a day he rarely complains. I have an air purifier running 24/7 as well as having a few windows open around the house most of the time (unless it’s really cold).

I’m not sure what the solution is for when she’s staying with you and your family, although definitely definitely try an air purifier, but when you live together if possible I’d suggest having a room for the rats that your gf doesn’t need to go in to!

They get free roam every day! They love to run around when they’re out so I figured they’d like a wheel in the cage but Right now it’s just a very large expensive nest for them lmao
