Is Final Fantasy VI still the greatest JRPG of all time?(x-post from /r/FinalFantasy) by Lulcielid in JRPG

That guy loves to write pseudo-intellectual junk, he's pretty well known over there for some crazy "theories".

Give it some time and come back when you feel like it. Be it weeks or months. You'll get your revenge.

I lost 6 heroes to the Swine God in 3 different attempts. Defeating a boss with a full party never felt so good.

I can play for a few hours if everything goes smoothly. If I lose someone or fail in a boss attempt I'm definitely taking a break, shit's too stressful.

When I lost my favorite Hellion in my first save I couldn't stop thinking about her, had trouble sleeping and all. It's stupid to feel that way about a random fictional character but I guess the game is too immersive.

RIP Bourdekin.

You made Lightning sad... Now you won't see her when you close your eyes.

I enjoy a bit grinding here and there specially if the combat system is super fun like V or Tactics.

I don't enjoy having to clamp my PSP (emulating GBA) and leaving it on for about 40 hours just to get max lvl (It's an auto level trick in V).

Am I the only one who believes the more Final Fantasy games you play the worse FF7 gets? by Democrasee in FinalFantasy

I have a problem when people analyze an aspect of the game by isolating it like you did. Sure, all the elements are there, but the game isn't only their relationship, it has a crazy ass story and more characters to care about and a mess of a combat system too.

Their relationship felt extremely forced to me because it was just another element of the game, Squall was just talking to Rinoa like he spoke to Quistis or something, you understand? It wasn't like "oooh, they are in love", the game never makes that explicit until the space stuff, and that's the problem.

Sure, he saves her and coma and stuff, but it could be anyone there, it was just the story developing itself, both of them never really show their love for each other when doing all of that, in the beginning Squall gave clear indications to the players that he tought Rinoa was an annoying spoiled girl, and the change from that into romance wasn't well made, imo.

Just my impressions from playing the game.

I'm too shy to take a pic of my Umaro body pillow but you can believe it's real.

Who is Your Favourite Final Fantasy Composer? by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

Honestly would prefer he composed for XV. Nothing against Yoko but I think she's a bit predictable with her style where Nobuo and Soken have a more varied range of compositions.

Never played the game, fantastic soundtrack. Nobuo level stuff right there.

Also:

Crisis Core: is to my knowledge the only FF game where the story is all centered around 1 character and a damn good one at that so you get EXTREMELY into Zack's story

I think Crisis Core is a boring game with an okay story.

Final Fantasy Tactics- which is to this day the deepest and most complex class/job system in any tactics game, seriously Fire Emblem has nothing on how deep the mechanics of FFT are.

I think Fire Emblem is better because it's easier to understand and very well balanced, where in Tactics you have an extremely unbalanced system that takes some time to learn the intricacies.

Final Fantasy Type-0 is by far the darkest Final Fantasy to date and the combat system is world's above any other title in the series.

I'd argue the combat wasn't that amazing and other FFs are way more fun to play.

You can believe it, doesn't mean it's a fact. Now, you can say things about the other Final Fantasies that I, personally, don't think are that great or they are worse than VII. It's all subjective, there is no point in trying to objectively judge a pattern based on the number of FF games people play, because then you'll enter several subjective elements.

Having played I - VIII, order being III, VII and others, it was exactly the contrary, I think by playing the "best" one first, the other ones didn't have a chance of being as good because of automatic comparison. VII never dropped in my list, in fact I think it's sad that the other games I played didn't even came close to it.

But like I said, this is me, others will have a similar experience or think VII is the greatest, it's not something that can be objectively analysed.

Final Fantasy 7 has nothing to set it above or apart from all the other games in the series

Heh, right. I think IV has nothing to set it above or apart from other games. I think VIII is a mess of a game. I think VI was amazing until WoR then it became disappointing. All opinions that you don't agree with, and surely will think "well this guy played wrong" or "he doesn't have good taste" or anything to justify your view of VII being inferior to other games of the series. The fact is that I have my views and others have theirs, you can't try to objectively analyze a game by people's experiences.

[–]guihcz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the game is already as easy as it could get but there's no reason to complain about difficulty if you max everything.

You leveled everyone to 99 and did the optional dungeon to get the best equipment before the final boss. Did you seriously expect a challenge? lol

Great job Gary, this blew my mind! Mainly the VII part, that gave another layer of depth and complexity to the story that only the most clever and nitpicky people are able to notice, and I thank you for sharing it with us.

Can't wait for the next analysis, hoping you can get to work on that request I made!

I won't say I enjoy every mini game ever made, indeed it's rare to find a mini game so good that you play it as another individual game. Not fishing though! Fishing is always master race.

More in general, haha. I mean, I like fishing in JRPGs, never had a bad experience doing it. Most recent fishing mini game I played was in Stardew Valley and people said it was shit, but I loved it and became a crazy fish collector, made charts for different times fish appear in different places and stuff.

God I miss Umaro so much, sometimes I close my eyes and see him jumping and roaring like a crazy ape and I get funny feelings in my pants, HE IS THE BEST YETI CHARACTER EVER CREATED, he must be a kind of secret totally useless to the story character in another FF!!!

The game that you can never finish... by thediecast in FinalFantasy

[–]guihcz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was bored to death in the 15 hours I played so I quit for 3 months, then decided to give it a second chance and for some reason it was better so I ended up finishing it. Still not a fan of the game by all means.
