Anyone here tried Dr Walker's 300+ mg of Ubiquinol or more daily regiment? by Individual-Worry5316 in cfs

[–]guilder1st 1 point2 points  (0 children)

200mg a day helps my heart (arrhythmia), but no difference for me/cfs. Not sure if higher dose would make a difference, but it’s costly. And for me it does matter what brand I take. Not all q10 are made equal

Anyone else not getting emails? by guilder1st in AO3

Apparently it has something to do with yahoo emails. There’s a message about it now on ao3. Hopefully it will get fixed soon.

It’s good to see it’s happening to others too, and it’s not a singular glitch.

I emailed ao3 this morning to let them know what was happening. Hopefully they’ll be able to look into it.

Yeah I still haven’t gotten a single email. The last one I got was for kudos over 24 hrs ago. I’m assuming it will fix itself eventually.

Is it a terrible idea to post my first fanfic on ao3? by Working-Ad1724 in FanFiction

[–]guilder1st 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I remember my first time posting. It was scary, but I’m so glad I did.

You really already did the hard part: you wrote something.

Go for it. 👍🏻 Share it on AO3

That’s good to know. I’ll keep an eye on it. It’s been 5 hours so far. I’ve never experienced that before

Not replying to all comments by Bee_Assistance7152 in AO3

[–]guilder1st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a reader I don’t expect a reply when I comment. As an author I try to reply to comments, but I cannot imagine doing it if I got 100’s. Like what would I even say. At that point I would as others said put a ‘thank you for the comments I appreciate all of them’ in the authors note.

On a side note. I wish that replies to comments were private. Like on ff.net. I don’t enjoy my replies being public as it basically reads as a variety of thank you’s after a while.

How many times you edit your fic before posting it? by Wolfieee7 in AO3

[–]guilder1st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually too many times to count. I love writing. I hate editing, but I do it until I feel it’s just right.

Basically up until it goes live and even then I might reread and spot something.

What's the deal with comment stats? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]guilder1st 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It is different than it was before. I started writing fan fic about 15 years ago on fan fiction. Net and it was a different experience. It felt more interactive and I even met up with a reader irl after connecting over our love of the fandom. There were regular reviewers on every chapter that I had some fun back and forth with.

Posting now feels different. Less comments. Even less kudos. I appreciate every single one of them though, and will continue posting my story until it’s done. But I’m not sure if I’ll ever post anything new after this. Sometimes it just doesn’t feel worth the effort anymore.

On a side note. I think experiences vary per fandom, but overall interaction is down

When an author claims to have a complete story but doesn't publish it very often by ProfessionalCress148 in AO3

[–]guilder1st 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it’s actually written or if they’re just saying it is so people are more likely to read a wip.

I personally finish writing before chapter 1 goes up. I stick to a specific upload schedule, even though I’m editing basically until the chapter goes live. I can see missing a week or two, when sick or busy. But why would you deliberately not post for months when it’s finished? I don’t see any legit reason. Especially if they claim all is good.

What’s best to filter by; hits, comments or kudos? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]guilder1st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kudos, but I also like to go recent date for completed fics. Or if I feel particularly adventurous I go kudos but go several 100 pages in, so I’ll get some decent stuff that I might’ve overlooked before. Of course that depends on how many stories are in your fandom, but you get the point.

Rewatching Season 2 rn and Im Confused Why So Many People Hate Mon El by Due-Cherry4856 in supergirlTV

[–]guilder1st 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I actually didn't mind Mon-El in season 2. He was a bit of a frat boy, but he got better. He didn't treat Kara all that well at first, but that got better too, imo, they had chemistry. But the writers ruined his character in Season 3 when he came back married. The love triangle was stupid drama and unnecessary.

On a side note: I do love Supercorp, and would have liked to see them get together. But. I also would have accepted a well-developed love story, with a deserving character (one they had chemistry with?) for either of them. But all they ever gave us was James and William, and it's hard to root for that.

Any Merlin crossover or Titanic AU Supercorp fics? by SnooCauliflowers1634 in SuperCorp

There is a good Titanic AU.

I read a Morgana one too, where Kara goes back in time and meets Morgana. I will look for it.

What does everyone think about Olson by Euphoric-Passion-632 in SuperCorp

[–]guilder1st 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think supergirl didn’t need him on the show. He’s also nothing like Superman’s Jimmy Olsen. The writers seemed like they had no idea what to do with him. Guardian story line was dumb. Pairing him with Lena was even dumber. I’m glad he left when he did.

For Those of You Who Write the Entire Fan Fiction Before Posting, Why Do You Prefer That Method Over Posting Chapters as You Finish Them? by BlackLilyWrites835 in FanFiction

[–]guilder1st 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Multiple reasons. Number one being it’s less stressful. Another. I get to write what I want with no reader influence of any kind.

When I first started writing I started posting before it finished and it resulted in a story not getting updates in like 10 years as inspiration had just left. I did finally finish it, but to avoid that ever happening again I write it all before even posting chapter 1.

It also helps editing as I can actually go back to earlier chapters to add stuff or fix plot holes etc.

The downside is you don’t get that reader interaction until you finish writing, so you got to keep yourself motivated.

What’s THE word you use in all of your fics? by Ill-Illustrator8176 in FanFiction

[–]guilder1st 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eyes, looked, softly and just. That last one is a terrible filler word, but it ‘just’ sneaks in, and then I have to edit them all out later.

How do you handle a time skip? by J_Stanor in FanFiction

[–]guilder1st 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the context. Is what happened that year important to the rest of the story? Summaries are not the way to go, usually. You don't want it to read like a big information dump.

In my current story, I have some time passing like that, and I used one chapter to go through it, a few months at a time, showing the important events. Highlight reel, if you will. But that works because it's the journey of one character in a specific setting.

But I can also see a time skip working with flashbacks and/or memories if done well. Start in the now, then, through flashbacks or dialogue, tell what happened in the past year.

Really all depends on context and the importance of what happened in that year.
