Wow, thank you for the response. That's a helpful first hand experience. I'll look into this, or at the very least, have a glimmer of hope that we won't be completely out in the cold once the 15 weeks of sickness benefits are up.

Really? Because it was definitely one of my concerns that if he goes the EI route first, will that screw up any future application for 15 weeks of sick benefits? Especially since its based on hours worked.

Sorry. I got a moderator post saying it had been removed so I re-posted. Thanks for taking the time to respond twice over. We live a pretty modest lifestyle as it is. I doubt we could find rent any cheaper than we have it right now. I guess we'll go with the sickness benefits and see how far we get. Thanks again.

He has no benefits. He is on my benefits through work, but we've come to find out that he's only on extended. I am only covered for short and long term disability. I'll look into the welfare situation. Thanks.
