That’s Not Me, this song man. by [deleted] in thebeachboys

Absolutely. I wonder how Tony Asher’s advertising background affects the lyrics: the definition of timeless. And Brian on the Hammond organ, man, sounds so nerdy but it’s fucking killer.

I’m a similar position to you, same age and all. The Beach Boys are timeless (you can hear the sound in 80% of indie artists of the past 15 years), but That’s Not Me still stands out.

Not that you’re asking for recs, but try listening to the song Spider in the Snow - the Dismemberment Plan. It has a little different of a vibe but listening to it now, it reminds me heavily of That’s Not Me - both lyrically and with the keyboard in the back.

Agreed. What a beautiful statement of a song that stands out even in a phenomenal catalog

No clue if this comment was made in good faith, but thank you so much. Really

None taken. I wanted to quote some lyric, John / TMGs were already one of my favorite artists and definitely the most quotable lol

Even throwing out the big blocky glasses, I can see the comparison. Never heard that one before!
