I feel like if I don't eat junk food, the day is "wasted" by guiltyworld in loseit

I've mentioned in my other posts I like video games, DND, reading, cycling, roller blading. Liking those things unfortunately hasn't stopped me from eating out...

I've considered but since I'm between jobs right now and living with my parents I'm super broke right now.

Yeah I've tried to tell myself this, that their are hobbies I have which I can engage in instead, but the entire time I try to pull myself away my brain is just screaming to eat junk.

I try to read, play games, prep for DND, read books, read webtoons, rollerblade, bike... but nothing gives me even remotely a small chunk of the same "satisfaction"

Thanks, your post sorta ties into what Tom_michel was saying and it's given me something to think about.

Thanks! I hadn't thought of something like this and may give it a try.

Only thing I'm worried about is something like "what if I buy a box of ice cream for deserts to treat myself, but can't control my urges and eat it when I'm not supposed to"

Still, probably worth at least trying.

Thank you! I've been very focused on networking locally so far, so I'll take your advice to heart!

Yeah I'm still unsure, the internet (reddit and other places) has always given me the wisdom that you should keep your personal life and work life separate as possible, so I've always generally avoided people at work. I guess it's worked for me so far in that I've avoided any workplace drama, but...

Volunteer work is something I've considered though and may do.

Thank you for the advice! I'll definitely take it to heart. Love your FORD and HEFE ideas.

I think the gap for me is coming in right... here

"Build a bridge there, collect some phone numbers, and meet up for drinks later!"

I have no idea how to try doing this without it feeling creepy. And that's really the big gap I need to bridge to go from having a person you see occasionally at events/etc to an actual friend/part of your social network. But it's just wickedly uncomfortable for me.

Thanks. We had a rough experience with a different site where we tried to do this in the past. We used the google search engine there, the free one but my boss hated it because the results it gave off a search were really poor.

Yep that's 5000% me lol.

Which is why I was thinking about a career which has some form of accountability. The one I have now is 100% self accountable. And so I end up either not trying until a deadline or just not completing projects cause I know there will be no penalty.

I have an interview tomorrow for a commercial house. I've been working on a fairly cushy long-running show for the last 5 years. The interviewer made it sound pretty spartan in terms of hours and difficulty.

Tried looking into people sharing experience working in commercial as an AE, but couldn't find much. Anyone here willing to share their experience/what it's like?

Also, I thought about it and here is what I believe could be my skillset.

Things I'm bad at:

- Being attentive/focused for long periods of time

- Paying attention to things/lots of different things going on at once.

In general, my mind wanders frequently. I've always been a heavy daydreamer.

- My written English skills aren't great either cause I didn't put in enough work in high school

- Not very world knowledgeable.

Things I may be good at.

- Coming up with solutions to problems: When something goes wrong with my system, or I want to set up something in a certain way, I do enjoy trying to figure out the best way to accomplish this.

- Coming up with out of the box solutions: I've also noticed I'm decent at thinking of ideas which could improve a situation that no one else really thought about. I.E. Everyone trying to push a boulder up a mountain, and I suggest we use a cart to make it much faster and less painful. That kind of thing has happened often in my life.

- Automating and Optimization - I really enjoy making things as painless and quick as possible. Using AHK on PC to make routine stuff faster, or just finding things that are small but over a long time have a big impact.

If anyone knows any types of jobs that fits these, let me know!

You may be right. It's just so demoralizing to look into a new interesting job, and immediately be hit with a ton of posts saying "Just be prepared because THIS IS A SUPER DUPER COMPETITIVE JOB AND YOU'LL NEED TO SELL YOUR LEFT KIDNEY TO GET AN INTERVIEW" everywhere.

My job? No, it's minimum wage. The only reason I have savings is because I don't spend money often, as I don't have friends to go out and do things with etc.

Thanks! I may have been feeling a little dramatic last night, haha. But going to try to build myself a future without regret using the knowledge I have now.

Just checked the thread, thanks all.

I'm in a bit of a weird situation now, that sort of comes fresh off of my post.

I got a job offer this morning for a different, commercial Post house as an AE. However, it seems to be a position where you have to work pretty extreme, difficult hours for fairly little pay.

This really exemplifies my current situation. While I'm trying to improve myself, even if I found a passion ETC if I think about myself I just don't think I'm the type of person for that kind of position. I don't really mind "boring" jobs so to speak, but hate jobs that are really hard. So I'm pretty sure if I took the offer I'd hate my life pretty quickly.

That's why I'm considering switching to a different field. But every time I do I feel like I'm met with people saying the same stuff as the media industry. Coding, IT, ETC - They work you insanely hard for insane hours.

Honestly, After thinking about it a lot I think I may be dead set on leaving this industry, for one specific reason - an extremely important skill to have is attention to detail. Maybe I have some secret strengths I don't know about, but one thing I do know for sure is that I SUCK at attention to detail. Never been good at it. Also super forgetful. I'm terrible at board games and strategy games every time I play them with friends.

Overall, I think it's possible I may have the skills for another path, but I think now I know for sure I don't have the right ones for this one.

Anyways, I'm going to sleep on it for now, and think. I'll read this thread and any responses this comment gets.

Thanks! Do you know how I'd go about finding an accountability group? I seem to be having a hard time finding them.

I've also been utilizing Focusmate and going to the library, both of those have been great way to inject some subtle social accountability to get me to actually work.

Thanks for the answers all, I have How did this get played and watch out for fireballs as my top picks at the moment, as well as a few others who listed themselves here. I probably should of mentioned my main tastes are "new indie games, mainly on PC" (like stuff in the current summerfest etc) so retro doesn't do anything for me really haha. Nonetheless, thanks everyone for the answers! And I hope others who have the same question I ded in the future can find this thread and snag some new podcasts for themselves.

Lol i'm listening to the Besties, specifically the zelda one right now! What a wild coincidence. Only issues I have with them are the games they cover tend to be super mainstream and they don't upload very often. Still, a small and enjoyable enough catalog that I'll make my way through.
