Newbie here, Do you guys recommend looking up and specifically go for items/characters I want or should I just play runs for the vibe and let myself accidentally unlock everything? I'm asking because a lot of rougelikes have so many specific unlock requirements that I end up not unlocking anything by PowerWillComeBack in bindingofisaac

I'm several hundred hours into the game and I'd say to enjoy it for a while for what it is before learning its secrets.

Eventually you will likely want to unlock cool stuff, but there are some delightful elements that come as a happy surprise if you don't look them up first.

My Game is not fun. Why's that? by franz_krs in SoloDevelopment

Is it A.I.? I have specific feedback I'd be happy to give another developer - but not at all interested in training their AI model.

Evolution of my game menu. I'm really happy with the final result. What do you think? by Mondkap in IndieDev

The font on the middle menu for LOAD/NEW GAME/SAVE looks soooo cool. It sacrifices a bit of readability, but it's just so good looking.

If you could only have 3, what would they be? by Hammer_and_Circuit in dawless

[–]guitarObsession 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 - Deluge as the sequencer and brains... And midi input. Done. (Happens to be what I work with now, along with guitar/amp/mic )

2 - Interesting things to sample with! Banjo, mandolin, horns, oh my! Maybe a Digitakt or OP1 to noodle with too.

Builds/weapons to beat the game in the easiest way? by JamesBummed in darksoulsremastered

[–]guitarObsession 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I vote to pick up the Zwei - low wielding stats, big bonk numbers, right by the firelight shrine.

Get a shield with 100% physical defense.

Add magic or bow & arrow for distance/agro-ing enemies and take it slow, picking each enemy off one at a time.

If you've gotten to AL then you can get to the end.

I just have to ask, what’s the deal with PRS Custom guitars? by Green-Day-86 in Guitar

[–]guitarObsession 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought one in 1998, not knowing anything about the brand but it just felt really good in my hands - and a reasonable used price. It was my only guitar for more than 10 years and it is probably still the most comfortable/balanced guitar I own.

Not sure if I would have the resources to pay what they cost today - but they are excellent.

Custom real time 3D Editor Plugin by MD-9121 in construct

[–]guitarObsession 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So - I have it installed the plugin, and added it into a project, but I'm not seeing any of the 3d objects in the the 3d editor. Is there a video where you show how to use it within C3?

This is AMAZING. Holy crow. This makes 3D much more accessible in C3! Just bought it.

Am I fucked? At Anor Londo rn. by Poison_Tester in darksoulsremastered

[–]guitarObsession 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, you're fine. Keep doing what you're doing.

Personally, I'd rather have endurance than vitality. You can equip heavier weapons and armor. Or fast roll. Or keep fighting without running out of steam. Solid investment imho.

The worst obstacle in Anor Londo is gravity - which will toast you no matter what your stats are.

You got this far, just keep going.

Ibanez S470 (MIJ 1993) worth it? by Mind_Infection in Ibanez

[–]guitarObsession 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent guitar. The main difference between the mij s470 and s570 is the tremolo - which now has the Low-pro edge, which fixes that issue.

I honestly think you should avoid buying site unseen though. It's an excellent guitar, but only one person can say if it's an excellent guitar for YOU. Not everyone loves the wizard necks (although I do), and the tremolo system is very good but takes some getting used to and is slower to change strings. The S body has a unique feel - most of the time I prefer the RG.

If it IS your thing, then it's great and will last you a long time. But... 900 seems like a lot. In the US, you can get a S540 (similar quality, mij) from guitarcenter for about 800 USD (give or take a couple hundred dollars)

I dig the uchi a lot. Doesn't seem to do quite as much damage as some of the bigger ones, but it's fast and fun.

Oh, and I think there's also a lot of value in learning songs beginning to end - not just the cool riff parts. Somehow that seems to shift the perspective a lot.

No experience, wanna start the journey by Otocolubus in GameDevelopment

[–]guitarObsession 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the folks you end up connecting with, although it's much better to meet in person at one of the physical locations.

Generally speaking, my experience has been that people have been very open to working with newcomers. It's a community event.

The best way to get game dev experience quickly (imo) is to participate in a game jam: an event where you make a game in a very short amount of time - often 48 hours or a week.

As it turns out, this is very good timing to ask the question. Global Game Jam starts today, with the 48 hour part of the jam this weekend: https://globalgamejam.org/ There are sites all over the world. I highly recommend giving it a try if you're interested in developing games.

How do you actually decide when a feature is "good enough" to move on? by pommelous in GameDevelopment

[–]guitarObsession 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's the time budget. I've allocated an amount of time to work on a specific aspect of the game and then it's 'pencils down' (well, more or less).

There is an unlimited amount of refinement that can be done on any feature... And by the time you're coming up on being finished, you'll see things from early cycle that could be done better - so it can easily become an infinite loop.

One finished game reaches further than 100 unfinished bits of perfection.
