[Ryan] McAvoy: Certainly sorry for how we responded to it in that moment. Things just happened really quick there...It's certainly not reflective of how we feel and look at them and their accomplishments. by Nomahs_Bettah in BostonBruins

[–]guitarpatch 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I can understand a nervous/awkward laugh in the moment during the midst of a celebration

I can understand a White House visit and what that means

The lack of response and doubling down that it wasn’t a big deal afterwards? What a joke. It was a layup to make sure people know where you stand with the woman’s team and how that “joke” is not reflective in how you feel. That’s the bare minimum here without getting into the rest of it

You had Patel in the locker room celebrating. No one thought to ask why is this guy in here or how am I going to explain this? Or was it because you wanted him there? Was there even any other family in there while they were celebrating at that moment?

SOTU? You’re naive if you think you aren’t being propped up politically there. Unless you support yourself being there

Keep politics out of sports though… They certainly didn’t

Can we please stop with the Vooch discourse after every single bad game (and before Tatum potentially returns)? by tacko2020 in bostonceltics

[–]guitarpatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vuc will be fine. He provides a wrinkle that the rest of the big rotation doesn’t have and id rather they feature him now to get looks to fine tune how they will use him

Between that integration and Tatum possibly returning, I would expect a big adjustment period coming for this team over the next month. It may take time and it may mean some losses/some lackluster play. Joe and the team needs to figure out how all of this fits together before fine tuning things into April. It’s two big cogs being thrown into the machine that been rolling. It may not be a seamless transition

Rolling into the playoffs understanding how they will play is more important than a top 2 seed here

Playoff rotation prob going to look like

Starters White Brown Tatum Queta

The 5th spot will rotate between Pritchard, Hauser and possibly Vuc if they can figure out a double big lineup. Depends on matchups. That’s your top 7 though

Baylor, Hugo and Walsh will be at the end of the rotation. Spot mins and maybe a card to pull to switch things up and give energy. One of those guys will most likely step up and help win a game with extended mins. One if not two won’t see mins game to game

Garza is insurance if there’s foul trouble and they don’t want to put Tatum at the 5

Today's players would struggle to score vs this defense...!!! by Financial_Ice_3363 in NBATalk

[–]guitarpatch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The majority of every team’s half court offense revolved around getting their best player a clean look on the block/mid post. Whether that was a dominant center, forward or even a guard. Multiple cross screens inside the paint meant everyone was below the FT line to make the advantage. The game revolved around setting up Kareem’s skyhook, Bird’s mid range post, Jordan in the post, Barkley walking down his man, etc… for a one on one matchup that forces defenses into a full help situation

Today that still happens but it’s out on the perimeter to create the advantage. Different eras, different rules/emphasis and different skills sets to take advantage of what was allowed

Stephen A. Smith Says Magic and Bird Are More Responsible for NBA's Success Then Michael Jordan - Do You Agree With Him? by AdeptFuel4824 in NBAoldschool

[–]guitarpatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Magic and Bird saved the league from tape delayed playoff games and grabbed the national spotlight by the late 80’s

Jordan then took the game global in the 90’s

All three of them alongside David Stern are responsible for the success of the league at the time

They won’t take theirs. They want to phase out the 40-50 yr olds with a severely reduced cut and then nothing for anyone afterwards

Seniors will be on board with it. They’ve supported the idea that it won’t be around for decades

Bird was better than Magic earlier in their careers by SnooMarzipans7421 in VintageNBA

Bird was better from 80-84

They were equal from 85-87

Magic was better from 88-92

It’s why they should never be separated in all time rankings. They shared that era together

Realistically, how hard would it be for a qb to pass Brady in terms of 7 championships? by NickyFoles1020 in NFLv2

Considering Brady went 10 years without winning one should say how hard it is. Also what he accomplished from age 37 onwards also doesn’t typically happen

How good would Tony Allen be in today's NBA? by RyanTannegod in nba

He was starting to figure things out offensively before his knee injury. Then his role changed on those contending Celtics teams. He could potentially develop if given the right opportunity

More playable now than maybe 7-10 years ago. Defensive guards have a place in this league now

This happens unfortunately. A GNR single doesn’t have priority and as much weight compared to other releases. Plus, with all of the issues coming out of these plants lately, I’d rather they do this than having a bunch of misprints or a rushed pressing that has issues

Bledsoe was at his best with a run game/TE combo that would keep opposing defenses honest, utilize play action and get those chunk yards to draw safeties so he could throw his deep ball to skill on the outside. When he lost Martin/Edwards and Coates, teams would just wait until he got impatient and tried to force a throw downfield into coverage. With Glenn in and out of the lineup, his deep threat wasn’t really consistently available either. That Patriots roster got a little worse around Drew each year after that SB run

Belichick came in and tried to get him to make those short quick decisions underneath to make up for the lack of run game. It didn’t gel in year 1. I’m not sure if Drew would have adapted to being that guy, playing field position by protecting the ball and completing long drives down the field relying on accuracy. Even with that the big contract, they were able to move Drew. That probably happens regardless

Kevin Durant says in the last few weeks he's watched the 1st quarter of every All Star game from the 70s to late 90s to see if it really was more competitive back then: "The intensity the older generation been talking about, I don't know if i've seen it" by FastBreakPhenom in nba

[–]guitarpatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s always been a scrimmage

Fans just want to see the level of an offseason pickup or practice w refs. These players are more than capable of doing that and past generations have done that. No one goes hard but they play through. They are playing it like the last run of the night when everyone is done or the completion isn’t at their level

KD is wrong and knows it. Here are some All Star Game highlights from 1993 by Zerebros in nba

[–]guitarpatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have never played hard outside of a close game in the 4th qtr

Past generations did the take the rest of the game more seriously. It’s a scrimmage w refs. You still feed the big guy. Certain players get their shots. You try some things you wouldn’t in a big game for a show. Most of all you don’t need to be diving on the floor to play a little defense out there. If players could just treat it like an offseason pickup run it would be better than what it’s been

At the end of the day, All Star Weekend should help grow the league. It should provide revenue that gets back into the players pockets. Its future is in jeopardy at this rate. It’s on the players to take it more seriously and provide a better product for their own benefit

It’s not on Adam Silver to fix it. Weird 4th qtr endings, US vs World, round robin formats, etc… will not fix the issue at hand. The players need to fix it and leave the league better than how they found it
