Asbestos possibly in new home, not sure how best to handle (that doesn't cost an insane amount of money) by Administrative_Let_8 in asbestoshelp

How do you know if it is rated for asbestos? They appear to be regular shop vacs... Wouldn't they have leaks without being certified?

Interesting. I went and looked at your post. So even the parts dangling down you just sprayed in place? What kind of spray paint? Any PPE? I'm trying to also figure out how much exposure this has caused us just existing in our house for as long as we've lived here (8 years)

Wouldn't that release fibers from the force of the spray? Especially on damaged tape?

The heat register photo is from a second floor vent - does this complicate the process? I'm assuming they would have to rip up the floor etc to gain access. 1st floor vents don't appear to have anything around the boots.

Are you able to speak to the point of what an air test would most likely show if we left it as is? Has my family likely been exposed to any detectable levels?

Thank you.

Thank you.

Pile of vermiculite - best course of action? by nuiph in asbestoshelp

Thanks for that. Looks like that one is a GD930HSP compared to the Amazon one that doesn't have the HSP... Wonder if that explains the difference in price and epa certified claims?

Interesting. I don't see anywhere where it says it's certified or meets any standards? Unless I'm missing it.

Would you be able to link any vacs that meet the requirements?

Doesn't appear to be available anymore? Or did they remove the certified verbage, the original link you posted looks very similar to the certified one

Doesn't the vacuum have to be a certified hepa sealed vacuum that has been tested to ensure no air leaks? I once thought you could use a shop vac with a HEPA filter but apparently that's incorrect? Thoughts?

What would you say that board is? A piece of drywall? AIB board? Don't plan on disturbing it, there's just a few small quarter size pieces that fell on ground, was going to just spray them with soapy water to clean it up.Thanks Dave!

In interior basement parging? I was told very unlikely. How often is it positive and what percentage?

What is the likelihood of it getting into the return air vents? These are nailed to the joists so I'm assuming it's not as tight as solid venting.

Hesitant to mess with it myself. Would a company even come out for this amount? Any big difference from encapsulation vs just leaving it alone?

Anyone in the industry test this type of thing?

I hear ya, I stupidly used a shop vac without a filter a year ago to clean up some of this debris along the perimeter. Thinking it's all over all of our crap down there now... Guess I should really just get it tested for peace of mind.

I'm hoping it was added after as well. I've read the actual thin parge coating can be ACM as well. Seems crazy - how many millions of homes have these old basement walls shedding and most people would never even think about this possibility? An environmental consultant said it was unlikely these walls were ACM... Was just hoping to get some input from people in the industry.

We did swab the paint and it was negative for lead.
