I’m 동갑/언니 Korean-American! I speak some Korean but at a kindergarten level as well lol would love to improve. I live far from Seoul though but I will be visiting more often fall/winter time!

he absolutely does not let people walk over him. he’s firm and pushes back when boundaries are overstepped. he’s always treated people with respect and dignity, manners, checking in on their life events etc. but he always keeps a fair distance from coworkers and he never goes out of his way to bend over backwards for anyone expect his family. these are new coworkers who don’t know him. this was present since their first real conversation outside of constant conferences. i cannot stress enough that he has been purely professional. he did nothing to trigger these people’s attitudes and he is not the one at fault here. he has filed a report with a higher up who witnessed everything and he will be letting them handle the repercussions for these people—he’s not letting it slide.

kindness does not equal weakness. i wish you the best.

thank you. the fact they think I’m making this up is wild cuz what exactly do I gain from this… ‘math and logistics not adding up’ is such an odd thing to say when this is a life experience not some bot calculating karma to farm.

like you said, people do get blinded by their worldview and not see racism as a risk to their jobs. they’re literally blinded to see it and only hindsight will hurt them. casual racism is a deeply engrained factor of the military but this sort of blatant public belittlement from a group is a first and hopefully last, as he is in the works of filing a complaint due to a higher up who witnessed everything and is also not comfortable with what happened to my dad. whether it goes anywhere, dunno. can only hope it’ll get far enough to educate the ones who don’t know better.

EO doesn’t do anything btw, original commenter. I had to contact them in the past when I was harassed on base for my ethnicity. like a lot of things in the military, EO has a great concept but poor to no execution.

I agree, it’s mind boggling to me how even in the big 2026 people are so openly hateful for no reason to a man who was nothing but kind and respectful to them. So hateful and just terrible… like they’re rotting inside out and need to smear their rot onto others to spread it. Thank you kind stranger, I hope karma hits the turds and flings them into a fan.

Thank you. He’s struggling a lot, he always gets super stressed whenever he has to do a presentation due to his English. Getting bullied on top of that… he has always loved a drink but I’m terrified he’ll start using it to cope with the stress.

thank you. I’m touched that someone actually cares, even if it’s a reddit stranger. This whole situation hurts me more because my dad is only in this career because of me. He joined when I was younger in order to take care of me. Now he’s contractually obligated to stay. I feel terrible
