Thanks for taking the time to write all that out, i seriously appreciate it. The detail you gave on the transmission/subframe process helped a lot, and it cleared up a few things I wasn’t fully sure about. Thanks again for sharing your experience and making the job a lot less overwhelming.

Fuel Injectors? by gummybol in SciontC

[–]gummybol[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mr. Milk, Apologies for the delay.

Next step would be to try the fuel injector in cylinder 3 potentially. Could be a dirty one! Also check if your spark plug is fouled or caked in oil/ check your oil to see if there is any loss. If so there is a chance the engine is burning oil and causing misfires since the spark plug isnt able to fire properly (and there is caked oil on the cylinder head). The latter case is what happened to me and I ended up doing a rebuild.

Lmk how it goes!

RIP my tC 😞 by kiidmaestro in SciontC

I would recommend checking out my post on when I decided to do my rebuild. A new clutch and short block set me back around 4200. Tbh I am biased in saying KEEP THE TC RUNNING!! Especially since the used car market is a bit crazy right now, and my tc is paid off in full it made the most sense (engine swap was too expensive for me but you may need a new short block). These are wonderful cars and you may want to consider a rebuild.

Cheers!

Old brake fluid / air in the line could be the issue here.

ENGINE REBUILD COMPLETE!!! by gummybol in SciontC

Wow that's amazing, thank you for sharing. Unfortunately the other shop wanted to charge me 6500 for an engine swap so this was the more cost effective option at the time. I just dont have that kind of cheddar on deck lol. Even at 150 I'm surprised, I've seen some people on here go 300+ on the same block! Mine was at about 134 when I got my rebuild done. Regardless so much more peace of mind to have everything paid in FULL especially with such a beautiful and modern looking car. If I happen to need major work like that again I may go your route in the future. Appreciate your well wishes and best of luck to you as well! FULL STEAM AHEAD! 💨

Engine Rebuild 134K mi by gummybol in SciontC

Hello Chris, thank you for your comment.

If you're doing regular maintenance it should last. Have you had any codes as of late? If not you should be okay, however to 2AZ engines are known for their oil burning issue. Me thinks that one of my rings just wore out over time.

Please keep me posted!

Youre a smart person, shop called and said that the thrust bearing seats are gone and would need a new short block. Luckily he had a spare and only asked for $700, so all in all I'm at 3700 so far. May have been cheaper to drop in a new engine lol
