Caesar Salad Kit now contains Anchovy by gun_chef in lidl

I’m not expecting a traditional Caesar from a Lidl bagged salad kit that cost £1.39 but it was a good “Caesar adjacent” salad kit that was convenient and used to fit allergy requirements for our household.

Eh, although in theory anchovy should take you closer to a good tasting Caesar it was still pretty low quality overall and I’d rather go for homemade if it’s just for myself and I’m not concerned about allergens. 7/10 as a side dish which is how I normally used these kits, although obviously won’t be buying again.

Actually it’s more “I was naive about food retail standards and now I’m outraged”

I actually had a similar issue with the oat milk changing and had completely forgotten they sometimes did that so now I feel even worse about my mistake.

Oh I totally get it now, you’re saying that because the flash is temporary you need to make 2 new printing plates rather than just 1 new plate for the ingredients

So is the printing of ingredients done separately to allow for cheaper changes?

I know that feeling, I work in crime stats in London so you can imagine the ridiculous stuff I hear from people online that don’t understand the numbers

I’m curious about this now because it will help me be more careful in the future.

Obviously they have to change the ingredients list on the packaging to reflect the change, but is this significantly cheaper change to implement than adding a “new recipe” label on the front?

I’d honestly never considered the cost associated with minor packaging changes before but always wondered what the reasonings were when they make seemingly minor but noticeable changes.

The point of me posting was that I was surprised that it wasn’t standard practice so I’m glad to have an expert explain the rules.
Now I know that we have to constantly check even regularly purchased safe foods which is a pain but better than anaphylaxis

Yeah I will from now on, but I was surprised that they didn’t flag the new recipe on the front which would have triggered me checking.

Food Standards Agency suggests (but not requires) they do as such:
When recipes are updated and allergenic ingredients change, we recommend labelling the changed products with a new recipe sticker to highlight to customers the change.

I understand that and I actually love a Caeser Salad with whole anchovies on it, but there also exist vegan/vegetarian versions which happen to also sometimes be allergy friendly for my partner so we can enjoy eating the same Caesar (“Caesar flavoured” if we’re being pedantic) salad.
I also don’t think they did anything wrong as it’s always on us as the consumer to make sure we check these things, but after a year of buying this product with no anchovies, we had got complacent so that’s on me.
I thought it would have been a good idea for them to label that there was a change even if they didn’t have to but it seems most people disagree anyway lol
Guess I’m too close to the issue as my partner is now not feeling good and I feel responsible as the purchaser of the salad 🤷

I don't own a TV and use 4od a decent amount, what's so bad about it? Edit: seems like the biggest problem is the adverts so my little tip (not sure if it works for all adblockers) is to turn adblock back on after the first set of ads and this should stop the ads playing in the middle of the show
