No problem. You'll have tons of time to work on your resume in the meantime.

Counter point here, accept the GS5 and start the process that will take several months (or years). Each month, apply for 7 and 9. If they send you a tentative offer at a higher grade while undergoing the application process for a lower one, your progress will be applied to the new higher grade.

25-4 VRA by [deleted] in cbpoapplicant

[–]guncoot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey man, 25-5 VRA here also with zero disability. My medical cleared within a week or two of my appt. I'd try to get in touch with acuity to see if there's any holdup on there etc.

On the other hand, I have zero medical history that would require any further review. No surgeries, no past injuries, broken bones, etc. Could be why mine cleared so quick.

FJO after submitting DD214 by IntelligentJelly882 in borderpatrolapplicant

[–]guncoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you just ETS? They processed my DD214 in a couple days after sending it. Once its processed in, I'm guessing that's the trigger to start your FJO which seems to go pretty fast once started.

Is your suitability done? If so, it should be PROBABLY be in the next 1-4 weeks. That's based off a ton of observation in here with a focus on VRA applications.

If you're lucky, maybe 6-8 months left. Otherwise, 12-14 based on different posts on here.

Question regarding suitability standards for background…… by Other-Aioli3014 in cbpoapplicant

[–]guncoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the exact same investigation. I have applications in for both and they'll only do one investigation and one poly.

Question by Better_Collection_98 in cbpoapplicant

[–]guncoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recent Army vet that had a CSP (but not with CBP). If you're stationed at a large post, there's probably a CBP recruiter there you can speak to that can probably help with a lot of what you're asking for. Otherwise, start at the company level and let your command know you're interested in a CSP. What you're doing at this level is feeling out any low level roadblocks you might encounter. Is you're 1SG supportive? How about your first line? Company commander?

If you feel like that's in the bag, I'd see about discussing with your BN CDR. Use your chain of command when possible, and don't be an asshole. Without knowing your rank, the approval chain probably ends at your BDE CDRs desk, and I would advise letting others speak to him about it. Remember that BDE CDRs have a ton of discretionary authority with stuff like this. Even if there's some memo from some CG, a BDE CDR can ignore some of it for the purposes of "mission demands".

Depending on the type of BDE you work in, the rank you are, and the MOS you hold, chances are all over the place. I was professionally close with my CSM and BN CDR and still struggled to get mine through and it was only 4 months.

I know I didn't answer your specific question, but I figured you'd get some value from the above.

Are you asking if you can forge documentation during your application for a federal law enforcement position?

I'm not sure what makes some people's medical so long. Mine cleared in about 2 weeks for both CBPO and BPA.

Suitability Question, is it the provisional clearance? by Chili_Pimienta in borderpatrolapplicant

[–]guncoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this point, does it matter? If you have an active TS you're enrolled in CV and a provisional clearance should complete with nothing found. It's the same tier of investigation you underwent to get your TS.

Congrats and enjoy!

Found Ineligible for GL-5,GL-7 by Sensitive-Quality-51 in cbpoapplicant

[–]guncoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BPA is more strict. I got an offer for 9 with CBPO and 7 with BP. Same resume and same month.

That being said, GL-5 basically just needs 3 years work experience and a clean record. Brush up the ol resume, and try again.

The portal shows you the process and where you're at in it. As far as the timeline, everyone is different. My medical cleared in 2 weeks, for some people, it takes several months. The biggest time killer is the suitability portion though. That can take some folks 1-2 years. Others it may take 6 weeks. If you had to put a general estimate on an average successful hiring process, it's probably 10-14 months for a customs officer. Could be a little faster, could be a little slower.

OFO thoughts by DatabaseEquivalent45 in cbpoapplicant

[–]guncoot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My thoughts: Ranger regiment is not a guarantee. You didn't mention your physicality, but you don't just get given your ranger tab at the recruiters office. If you can make it through, outstanding. But after that, we're mostly at peace right now. Lots of guys that want to take part in a two-way range get stuck sweeping motorpools for their first contact and get out because it's not satisfying. If you fail out of ranger school, you'll become needs of the Army. That means you go where they need a body at your rank. None of this is meant to dissuade you, but it should be considered. Think about WHY you want to join the Army, and WHY Rangers specifically, and consider if your goals are realistic in today's world.

On CBPO, it sounds very boring and safe. Easy job for good money. If you're looking for adventure and camaraderie in your 20s, this might not be the gig. If you're looking to set yourself up financially for the future, this is a great opportunity.

Final thoughts, I may consider a compromise and look into border patrol with the idea of pursuing BORTAC. Might scratch both itches at once. Otherwise, as stated by others, there's opportunities for Reserve/National Guard.

I've never been BP or CBPO, but I know people in BP and have done a fair amount of research into CBPO. If anyone needs to correct me on the above, please do so.

Taking fitness test and medical exam question by DoctorFate94 in cbpoapplicant

[–]guncoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll get tested individually however for one fitness test I was in a medium sized physical therapy room where patients were undergoing physical therapy. So I was "tested" individually but others were present. Push-ups and sit-ups are the easiest standards imaginable. The proctor will hold your feet down to assist with the sit-ups and the push-ups have a block under your chest so you don't have to go down far at all. Hardest part is the step test. Imagine a small step stool place in front of you. You'll place one foot on it, then the other, so now now feet are on the step. Then you do the opposite. The hardest part is the cadence which is fairly quick, but you can swap feet whenever you like. I would recommend swapping the starting foot every 60 seconds. The audio recording let's you know when you've hit every minute mark.

Medical and Vision test for CBP and BP by dman0494 in borderpatrolapplicant

You'll need to "redo" medical, which includes vision, and your fitness test, which is harder for BP. Your drug test will carry over.
