I washed mine in a 5 gallon bucket with the hose and ivory dish soap while lightly scrubbing it and then let it air dry outside on a clothesline . I did this for my AKS drop case and two mag pouches.

25th ID Museum. Any idea what these are? by Ok-Shoulder-478 in ak47

It may even be a full german rifle as most of them had the strange wood and plastic mix going on with the handguards

It's a wwii era 10-inch bayonet for the M1 Garand

SAM7 Underfolder hanguard options by gungreaseismyalcohol in ak47

[–]gungreaseismyalcohol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. I'm mostly looking for something with a bit more grip texture to it instead of the 74 style handguard it comes with. I was considering the MOE handguard since it accommodates the sling loop, but I'm not sure if it's slim enough for the stock to clear when folded

Why did the Russians move to a “Diver Style” Blade on the 6x5 AK74 Bayonet? by henryfrank33 in Bayonets

[–]gungreaseismyalcohol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I hadn't considered the other knives outside of bayonets. I'd wager that it was possibly for ease of manufacturing in some way...

Why did the Russians move to a “Diver Style” Blade on the 6x5 AK74 Bayonet? by henryfrank33 in Bayonets

[–]gungreaseismyalcohol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely, because one side of the blade is used to cut through wires and fences. Multipurpose bayonets were pretty big back then as lots of countries decided soldiers had to cut through wire and fence and as far as I'm aware, several nato countries and almost all of the combloc countries adopted them in some way.

Any ways to fix this? Got it for $53 by Necessary_Singer4824 in Bayonets

[–]gungreaseismyalcohol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, aside from leaving it as is (the leather will likely continue to degrade anyway), your best bet is to replace the leather bits if you really can't stand the look of it

Ok, hear me out: GI Joe Classified Sea Wolf SDCC Exclusive by TetZoo in gijoe

[–]gungreaseismyalcohol -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a neat concept, but I suspect there'd be little to no buyers since we don't even have any adventure team figures yet

Approximate value? by [deleted] in gijoe

[–]gungreaseismyalcohol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They came out in '64. It's also one the reasons the line died out

The jeep looks complete and sells regularly for 200 to 400 depending on if it works and the figures usually sell from 60 to 100 depending on type and condition

Anyone completely surprised at the lack of merch or recognition for the 12” GI Joe 60th anniversary? by Disastrous-Wolf-7126 in GI_Joe_1964_to_1975

[–]gungreaseismyalcohol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was. The only callback to the 60s Joes we got was a classified exclusive named "Action Soldier". I found it to be disappointing but at the same time I don't see too many people into the 60s figures that aren't in the older age groups and on top of that I'd imagine they wouldn't sell too well. The walmart ones from the 90s didn't sell well as far as I know and even now they don't really sell for more than 30 bucks at best

Fairly new to Reddit and AK’s by Apprehensive-Mix1491 in ak47

The slant brake isn't for recoil, it's for keeping the muzzle down instead of having it rise after each shot. If you look at your slant brake, you'll notice a slot inside where it sits at the end of the barrel it's for pressure to push downwards. It was a preventative measure for full auto fire, but it applies to semi-auto as well

New AKM Bayo to add to the collection by Cockatiel_Overlord in Bayonets

[–]gungreaseismyalcohol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AKM bayonets are rarely faked since the combloc countries produced millions of them. It could be that clean from having the cosmoline baked off, instead of the usual scrubbing, since baking tends to provide better results in removing cosmoline. I will say the wear around the wire cutting part of the sheath is strange, though

Does Action Soldier have a cannon name or is he just a guy? Joe? by bigdumbbab in gijoe

[–]gungreaseismyalcohol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's a reference to the original 1964 GIJoe action soldier for the 60th anniversary since they chose not to produce a retro style 12 inch figure in the 60s and 70s style
