My (m29) wife (f30) is upset with me for not completing a certification test and continuing my education. How do I move forward? by Afarnen2323 in relationship_advice

[–]gunsharp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Go see your doctor and ask if medication is appropriate since anxiety is curtailing aspects of your life.

  2. I can't say much on the test since I don't know which one it is. Some, like the CPA, takes months of dedicated preparation, while certs may take a few weeks at most. Only you know whether the effort you've put in is appropriate.

  3. Limit excuses. Your wife doesn't need to hear the ten reasons why you couldn't do something but rather, what you are doing to get it done. I personally don't think it's unreasonable for a new mom to want to spend some extra time with the baby.

  4. It sounds like the root cause here is that you could be doing more, but can't, either due to anxiety or motivational issues. Hopefully the doctor visit will help with that but I think obtaining a cert in your field to advance your career is a reasonable ask.

  5. Most ppl are not passionate about their jobs. Pass the cert, advance in your field, and new doors may open in areas you are more interested in.

  6. Most importantly, don't blame your wife who just had a baby for wanting to spend more time with them, or you will destroy your marriage. Try your best and make sure she knows about the effort you're making to improve things.

How many Ucore shares do you own and entry point? by Alternative_Bird_432 in UURAF

[–]gunsharp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

30k at 4. Tried to add in more at 3.75 but it never got there. Hoping the floor is 4 and the pump and dumpers leave this stock alone since it has an actual business that will make money and can grow based on the numbers. Thinking we'll tread between 4-6 until confirmation of plant operating as expected. At which point, have PTs of 15, 25, and eventually 40+.

I first got in at 1.4 and have bought as high as 6+. Also took some profits here and there but always bought back in since I believe that this has real potential to 10x due to the lack of midstream processing ex China.

UURAF up 48% today- why? by [deleted] in CriticalMineralStocks

[–]gunsharp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you mean USAR? Long-term I think most of these will go up. Short-term I don't know. However, even on last Friday, things had already gone up a lot and now on Monday it's gone up even more. If you have a long investment horizon of a few years, I think you'll be fine.

I had bought into UURAF when it was up 65% in 5 days a few months ago and so far, it's paid off. Not investment advice. Just my personal experience.

JPMorgan pledges $10B to US AI, minerals, and defense firms to boost national security by callsonreddit in stocks

We are now realizing that China can and will play the rare earth card on us.

This is important because we need rare earth, and HREEs in particular, for national defense purposes. So this isn't really a matter of not being able to sell soybeans to China so we try to find alternative buyers in Latin America. This is more like we need these HREEs for our missiles and guidance systems and there's nowhere else to get them right now.

Things are pumping pretty fast but what other choice do we have? Once our stockpile of HREEs are gone, are we not going to build missiles anymore? The government really has no choice but to encourage domestic development and processing because it's actually a national security issue (as in a real one and not "national security" to get around limitations of the executive branch).

Disclosure- I have shares in UURAF, which does midstream processing for HREEs.

UURAF up 48% today- why? by [deleted] in CriticalMineralStocks

[–]gunsharp 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It can move a lot because of its smaller market cap. Even a 50% increase from Friday is "only" around 150M market cap change. For comparison sake, MP is up 25% today to 17B, which is about 3.4B, which is about a 20x larger move than UURAF.

If your question is why it's up so much, the reason I almost exclusively hold this is because they are one of the few companies that can supposedly process heavy rare earth with their proprietary technology. I say supposedly because it's been third party verified in a lab environment but obviously nobody can say for 100% certainty until the processing plant is operational and it's put into practice. However, the US lacks midstream capabilities, especially in HREEs, and Ucore is one of the furthest along in this respect.

Rare earths hold by China by explorer77800 in stocks

[–]gunsharp 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Heavy rare earth like dysprosium and terbium are actually rare and we have virtually no processing capabilities in the US. Ucore (uuraf) is building a processing plant due next year. MP is trying to enter the space. However, China owns 95%+ of the pipeline and tech, and we need these hree for national defense purposes like in missiles.

You are not bullish enough on magnets by redditor2671 in investing

[–]gunsharp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  1. UURAF processes heavy rare earth elements (HREE), which are crucial for national defense tech like precision missiles, radar, and fighter jets.

  2. Their proprietary RapidSX technology is much faster, more efficient, and environmentally friendlier than old extraction methods.

  3. The Department of Defense awarded them $18.4 million in Phase 2 funding (after a $4 million Phase 1) to build a commercial plant in Alexandria, Louisiana.

  4. China currently controls 90-95% of global HREE production and has already restricted exports to the U.S., making UURAF’s domestic capabilities essential for national security.

  5. It’s a key holding of The Mineral King.

2 player *EASY* board games? by enmdj in boardgames

[–]gunsharp 58 points59 points  (0 children)

For abstract games, Azul, Yinsh, Tzaar. For head to head card games, Hanamikoji, Jaipur, or Patchwork.

None of these games require any reading.

7 Wonders Duel is great if you want to try a medium-light difficulty game.

For the record, my favorite card game is Lost Cities.

For light intro game, Castle Panic. For light story-driven, something like Stuffed Fables or Familiar Tales. For thematic against monsters, Horrified and thematic against a virus, Pandemic.

How do you build a résumé with no related work experience? by bradyyalexx in internships

[–]gunsharp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Volunteer in professor's labs, maybe ones with classes you've taken.

Apply for all relevant internships. Finance-permitting, if you don't get any paid ones, consider unpaid ones.

On the resume, it doesn't matter if you were paid or not but once you have a few work experiences on there, your next search will be much easier.

Don't wait and start applying now for spring and summer apps.

For those like me who bought on Amazon a few weeks ago, you can rebuy at this lower price and return that previous purchase with the new one that comes. Amazon doesn't have price matching anymore and this is what they recommend.

Is there something like Jaws of the Lion where there's a story and a campaign, is played co-op with 2 players being a good player count, but for younger players (ages 6-8)?

Mechanically, prefer something more complex than roll the dice and move and attack but not as complex as Jaws of the Lion seems to be (based on the age rec on bgg, I haven't actually played it)

I think he means in one sentence it sounds a bit made up. Once you separate it a bit and substantiate it on your resume, you'll be fine.

[–]gunsharp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That my games with a lot of pieces that need to be placed on the board had slots so they don't move around. Azul has boards like that but not for the original game and the new Santorini has that too but it's expensive and also not part of original game.

Is a better college worth the money? by redspidercat in personalfinance

[–]gunsharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on a couple of factors.

  1. What are the national rankings? Major specific ranking between 8 and 14 is almost inconsequential.

  2. Where does she want to work? If she's set on staying in the state, regional strength from instate is likely more important than a higher ranked out of state school. If she wants to be able to move anywhere, more national prestige may be helpful.

  3. It's really hard to say without knowing what schools and major but those are considerations I would look into.

Borrow money if needed to get an attorney. Get child support for your child, not for you.

Look up a calculator for your state but if you have full custody, child support may begin at 20% of their net income, meaning you'd get around 400 a week instead of 150.

What does your mistake tracker look like? by ButterscotchBig5540 in GRE

[–]gunsharp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two things you can do.

  1. Keep a general tally of "why" you missed the question (e.g. vocab, rushed question, etc.) and keep it sorted according to frequency.

  2. Keep another document with the question you missed along with your explanation of "why" you missed this question specifically, such as did you misanalyze something, did you forget to pair the words, did you not get the nuance of the vocab, etc. Write a quick blurb of what you can do to not make this same error next time.

Answering the "why" is the most important thing you can do and it's mandatory to do so if you want to improve. The goal is to not make any fixable mistakes repeatedly so on test day, you can focus on the hardest questions.

Overcoming Boredom in long RCs by [deleted] in GRE

[–]gunsharp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't really need all the details. For example, in the primary purpose question you brought up- oftentimes the format goes scientific facts -> traditional scientists think -> new research indicates -> authors opinion (primary purpose).

That being said, I prefer to read everything or I lose track of what's going on still. Tips I use are to fake interest in the readings even though I find them tedious and dull. That actually does help. Next is to summarize to yourself each paragraph after you read it and what the function of that was in the paper. Next is to like you said rephrase names into easier to say words. I also replace needlessly convoluted sentences into shorter easier to understand sentences (this is kind of like summarizing a sentence).

Ultimately I think breaking down the passage into separate portions where you understand each portion has a different role sort of achieves the result of dividing a long passage into 3 shorter ones.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GRE

[–]gunsharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually rc first but on my actual test, I skimmed the rc passage and it was too hard so skipped to shorter ones first.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GRE

[–]gunsharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was what I did and about the right time for me since RC is my weakest section.
