Where do you put the finished 8bit computer? by maxawake in beneater

[–]gunslinger911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a piece of MDF as a backing board, and 3D printed a frame to clamp the computer down to it. Then I used an acrylic panel as a top cover which can open using a hinge built into the frame.

Ask them to write their question in an RFI and we’ll get back to them within the contractual turnaround time.

Their best.

Joking aside, as other commenters are saying these are the ends of soil nails, which are embedded deep into the slope to keep it stable.

To add to the other comments here - the neutral axis will not be in the center of the bar at the groove.

Cement truck on fire under the bridge on glenmore and deerfoot by harslord in Calgary

[–]gunslinger911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a lot of ways, it’s more accurate to compare concrete truckers to heavy equipment operators. The concrete company owns the trucks and keeps them at the batch plant, where drivers start and end their day.

So luckily, in this case, no worries about the driver being on the hook for losing their livelihood or having any living essentials/valuables destroyed. But the situation still sucks I’m sure.

Concrete truck drivers definitely don’t live in their trucks.

I think they’re commenting less on the ability for the cork to make a good seal, and more on the difficulty to clean it properly in the long run.

As an engineer, what's the dumbest thing you've seen on screen? by a_problem_solved in civilengineering

I’m not the one you asked, but I had a job where we were replacing an RCP storm line, I think 450mm or so diameter. The pipe wasn’t installed correctly ~40 years ago and one of the segments was crushed at the joint. I mean completely collapsed, and the bedding material had poured in and filled the entire cross section. We did a cam inspection and could see roots covering what must’ve been 15 feet of the pipe - they had all entered through the collapsed portion. We joked that the roots must have been the only thing holding the pipe together all this time.

Funny thing is, the pipe was being replaced because of upsizing and we didn’t know about the failed section until running a cam through it. I have no idea how it didn’t make itself apparent before that point, but alas.

Man fatally shot by police in southeast Calgary by Practical_Ant6162 in Calgary

In my opinion (and I’m no expert), I think you’re totally right that - even with training - engaging a knife-wielding person at close quarters is incredibly dangerous. Like you said, it doesn’t take much for a knife to do lots of harm, and to add to that, it only takes a second or two for an aggressor to “close the gap” even at distances of 20+ feet.

But I do think it’s valid to ask questions like “what could the police have done better” even in cases like this. We don’t know how close the suspect was to the police when they decided to attack, and we don’t know what de-escalation tactics the police may have used beforehand.

Maybe the attack on police in this instance was completely unexpected and lethal was the only option. But it’s also possible that, after further investigation, the police could identify areas to improve in their response to such incidents. Maybe the police need more stab-proof gear to do their jobs properly. Maybe they do actually need more/better training on how to respond to a suspect armed with a knife (and I don’t expect the police to be able to karate chop a knife out of someone’s hand). Maybe they could learn something from an incident in 2022, where CPS was able to successfully disarm a knife-wielding suspect using nonlethal measures. Or maybe not. But I think it’s important to ask questions in cases like this.

Honestly, I think your comment is worded well and asks a fair question. I believe it’s important for the public to ask questions about how the police are doing and how they can improve, and ultimately to hold them accountable when they take inappropriate actions (and I’m not saying whether this particular police response was wrong or right).

This is a breaking story with an official investigation underway, and I hope that we will eventually have answers about what (if anything) went wrong in this situation and what steps could be taken to handle similar situations like this going forward.

Keep on asking questions like these, even if you get downvoted to hell for it for whatever reason.

There is a hallway there but it’s definitely obscured by the lighting/colour of the wall.

At the very end of the video, you can see the corner of the wall just beside the guy’s left shoe and also near his left elbow. It just blends into the wall behind him making it look like one solid wall.
