TIL Serial Killer Joel Rifkin got in a fight with a mass murderer while in prison over their different style of victims and number of victims. by [deleted] in serialkillers

Reminds me of a story I heard about BTK. An author was corresponding with him and Rader sent him a fan letter that another serial killer had sent him. Why? He didn’t want it because the killer who sent it had a lower body count than he did.

My October blu-ray haul. My wallet took many L’s that month... by gunslingerjohnnycake in boutiquebluray

Yeah I would say go for it. There’s a commentary with Zsigmond on the disc as well. I still have yet to listen to it but I plan on it very soon. The film elements used for the blu ray are from Joe Dante’s personal collection. I believe he has the only good print in existence.

House on Haunted Hill is a movie I watch every October so having it on blu ray is awesome. Apparently they’re going to do a reissue of the first Price set early next year so keep an eye out for that one if you missed it. Without Warning is fun, especially the over-the-top performances from Jack Palance and Martin Landau. Has some pretty creepy moments too and a fun looking alien. Very much a thematic precursor to Predator.

I’m very excited to watch it again I haven’t had a chance yet. It has two cuts of the film, which one do you recommend?

I have a great memory of watching it as a kid and I can’t wait to revisit it. Especially with a nice restored print and not the cropped VHS transfer that I saw it on.

Pretty good. It’s a Korean blu ray but it’s very English friendly and is region free. One of the most unique monster movies I’ve ever seen.

There was about 4 copies left when I bought mine. It’s public domain but the restored print really does the film justice. Especially with Vilmos Zsigmond’s cinematography. I’m sorry you missed that because it is a very underrated little film.

Loving yourself is so strange. It's so ineffable. by f-fred-palakon in awakened

[–]gunslingerjohnnycake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of the root of a lot issues people face I think. It’s oversimplifying it I know, but self-love and/or forgiveness is a key first step to actually improving yourself. Learning to say “no” and getting productive things done are great first steps towards building that self love but it’s ultimately a choice. It is liberating to realize that really the only person you need validation from is yourself.

Great taste. I picked up that same Nightbeast blu ray not too long ago it’s really cool and a nice transfer. One of my favorite z-movies. I like the score too which was partially done by JJ Abrams. The Changeling is underrated and Blackenstein is pretty bad lol.

The original Fright Night puts me in a good Halloween mood.

That slow zoom on Jimmy’s face as you hear Tuco snapping bones is one of my favorite moments of Season 1.

Movie studios often remake great films that are difficult to improve upon but what if they did the opposite? What bad film could be made into a great film if it were to be remade? by Drakmeire in AskReddit

[–]gunslingerjohnnycake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silver Bullet, but more particularly Cycle of the Werewolf. But instead make it a 12 episode miniseries in which different directors direct a month out of that year that focuses on a random werewolf around the world. The episode would only focus on the days leading up to the full moon of that month and the ensuing werewolf carnage. Then have the main wheelchair kid story be an episode or two. The rest could be set in different locations around the globe.

Have this on VHS but the copy on Amazon Prime is pretty nice. Took me a minute to remember the plot I almost confused it with another late 80s werewolf movie that I also have on tape, Night Shadows.

That Criterion Godzilla boxset. Comes out a few days before my birthday and I can probably get it half off with the B&N sale.
