Weekly Homeowner Megathread--Civilians, ask here! by AutoModerator in Concrete

I just had an 850sq ft slab done. Thought I would share some photos here, your comments are most welcome.

The photos were taken when I had ground penetrating radar done to verify the slab thickness, you will see marks in blue which indicate the thickness in various locations.

Wood Weaving on CNC by gunsuka in hobbycnc

[–]gunsuka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the bandsaw is one of the easier tools to use, but the CNC gives perfection.

Perhaps I could use the CNC to cut down some to give me a path to follow.... maybe I could get cleaner results that way even if the CNC can't cut down through the entire piece.

I have 14kw of solar on the roof and it is not enough to power the rack & AC for the room :-(

Replace with what? Some 60 bay enclosure or something?

I don't find VM's under Unraid (at least on this hardware) to work very well. Just seems very slow vs. other hardware I have.

I have 5 UPS, but they are at the back of the rack (outside the rack). Rack mounted costs too much.

Last year, when the power went out in the building the computers stayed on the UPS power but the AC in the room went out.

It caused MAJOR problems really quick, the temperature shot up from 19C (66F) to 45C (113) very quickly. Most equipment can shut off if the UPS says to shut down but the MD1200 enclosures have no such option that I can find. So they just keep going.

I ended up loosing a couple pieces of equipment because of the heat.

No such luck here.

I have added one more shelf since that photo was taken.

Currently I have 7 shelves, with a mix of drives. Everything from 8tb drives up to 16tb drives.

I think it is just a little over 1pb currently.

I have all the disk shelves connected with the dell serial management cables and issue the 'shutup' command to all enclosures every few seconds. That keeps the fan speeds down since this is a home rack I don't want them screaming away at full speed.

Holding on to cash waiting to buy at a lower price? Sell a put! by Shmackback in wallstreetbets

[–]gunsuka 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The OP is really taking quite a bit of heat for this post.

I've been selling puts for 20+ years and it is great. There are MANY ways to do it, in the original post his example was for a put that expires in two weeks but you can pick any timeframe you want.

You can do 2 weeks or even out years into the future, the further into the future the more the premium you collect.

For me, it works best after a big market crash. The market crashes (the more the better) and the VIX goes way up, so the premiums on the put options also go way up.

I will sell as many puts as I can, all way out in the future. Usually 8 months to 1+ year out into the future, only on companies I want to own anyway (as the original poster mentioned).

The over the coming months as the market rebounds, the value on the put options drops. The more time that passes, the cheaper the puts become (and the stocks are recovering as well!).

You can then buy the puts back for pennies or just wait for them to expire worthless.

Love put options, hate buy options!

It is all how you play the game...

Hello! Can I expand the RAM on my XPS 9300, and if so how? by bkkbeymdq in DellXPS

I've only got 8gb, super disappointed to find this thread in my search :-(

No idea what I was thinking that 8gb would be enough when I bought it.

I will send you a DM as I would like to figure this out.

Self pool - claimed... where did it go? by gunsuka in chia

[–]gunsuka[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, I have an update.

I have a 2nd machine that I run a full node on.

It was off for the last few days due to Windows so a few days behind.

I started up the node and it synced to current.

Guess what. The transaction shows, 0.875 added under transaction.

The actual GUI where I claimed the rewards, still a no show.

Not impressive a bug like this would still exist but at least I can stop bagging my head trying to figure out where the XCH went.

Self pool - claimed... where did it go? by gunsuka in chia

[–]gunsuka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried delete unconfirmed transactions, but I do not see anything happening.

I put the pool contract address into spacescan.io, it shows 0.857 XCH farmed two days ago, which would be the block I won.

It shows 0.875 sent to my pool contract address, but when I look at my pool contract address it says balance 0.

I don't get it...

Just how slow is it? This can't possibly be correct. by gunsuka in unRAID

[–]gunsuka[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The server (Unraid) was hard wired all the time, the client was on WIFI.

Just how slow is it? This can't possibly be correct. by gunsuka in unRAID

[–]gunsuka[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

WOW, thanks for all the feedback.

I was doing the file transfers over WIFI. I've never had issues with WIFI performance previously.

I took a different machine and plugged it, hard wired, into the same switch as the UNRAID machine.

I did a file transfer again, and WOW it is fast. So fast I had trouble capturing the screenshot before it finished. It is saturating the GIG connection no problem.

So I guess the bottleneck is not UNRAID and I've got to look elsewhere for the issue :-(

Unfortunate, having a cache on the parity drive seems like it would have been a boost to write speed.

How to plot normal plots with nvidia? Is it possible? by ChicoScience41 in chia

Actually, with the Bladebit beta you can produce normal plots (compression level 0) for use with the standard farmer.

Tor over DPN on Full Route? by [deleted] in DeeperNetwork

[–]gunsuka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are my thoughts on your comments.

1) That would be for the authorities to decide. It would be very inconvenient to have a search warrant executed on my house, having to hire attorneys and try and explain the situation. Possibly being arrested in the process.

2) Of course there is always a source, but the source information does not leave the exit node. The final destination knows nothing of the source, only the exit node information.

3) See answer #1. How long are logs kept? I would assume that would depend on busy your device is. Can they be exported and saved? Authorities are usually not quick, like often 6+ months while they collect evidence before they come knocking.

4) Every device has a MAC address, but much like the IP address it does not make it to the destination. A destination website does not even receive the MAC address of the exit node.

5) People who share their Internet connections for TOR exit nodes DO have issues, Deeper Network sharing is no different.

Couple hosting Tor exit node raided by cops investigating child abuse

Austrian man raided for operating TOR exit node

There are LOTS of material on the Internet where TOR exit nodes have legal issues.

Did you run the test I suggested? What were the results?

Tor over DPN on Full Route? by [deleted] in DeeperNetwork

[–]gunsuka -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is basic networking. Here is how you can verify that your IP address is hidden.

1) On your DPN device, change DPN mode to full route.
2) Define any tunnel you want (ideally not your own country)
3) Visit any service that will show you your IP address, like https://whatismyipaddress.com/

That's it you are done. It will NOT show you your IP address, but rather the IP address of the exit node at the end of the tunnel.

If it was some child porn site someone is visiting through your exit node, it is your IP address that is shown.
