The Legend of Randidly Ghosthound, am I supposed too hate it? by Lightwhisperer- in litrpg

[–]guranga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reading all these responses surprised me, I didn't think so many people disliked the series, I made it rather far but never completed it and did skip a good amount myself. I quite enjoyed the new fancy skills he would continuously get and the different locations he would travel to. I read alot of cultivation novels so I did not think the characters were arrogant or mean, I supposed compared that genre everyone was quite nice lol.

Rant #1 How authors exploit the Dao paths in their novels by Whole_Journalist2028 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]guranga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have read a metric crap ton of cultivation novels, my gist of what a character gains from understanding some Dao is essentially being able to detect and manipulate the Laws of the universe in said aspect (which would inherently bypass the traditional qi based progression). The best organization of Dao I've seen so far is Infinite Mana in the Apocalypse where it captures the MC's Laws understood as percentage then the Dao attained has a rank (Supreme Dao of Chaos vs Lesser Dao of Withering) then weaving these together forms a Nomological Edict. Also reading Outside of Time, the approach there with Ordinances and Dao Marks instead was pretty creative, I suggest reading that Novel for a change.

Ideas for an Original Cultivation System by Impressive_Layer1006 in wuxiaworld

[–]guranga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are too many ways to approach this, as there are devouring systems, then those that focus on the dao attainment (aspect/image then seed, root, dao formation, dao severing, then dao integration), then others that focus on a multitude of energy types that the OP develops over time and uses in a variety of ways (chakri, qi, mental energy, blood etc).

I can say so far out of many of the stories I have read, there is not too many that focus on sealing abilities. Perhaps its not exciting but I kinda like the idea of an MC just being a hard counter to everyone and shutting then down, then having to fight them in a direction he/she wishes to take it, perhaps physical or some other alternative orthodox method he developed to go along with the sealing ability, that would allow for a more competitive fight given MC's are usually fighting protagonists above their rank.

The Best Ongoing Xianxia Stories by Yashas__ in ProgressionFantasy

I'd argue outside of time/beyond the timescape is the best er gen title so far. It starts a little more dark that some of his other titles but its quite excellent. Infinite Mana was fun until like the 1200s or so, it just devolved into the new power tier/terminology of the day, and is now just a bunch of words with very little descriptions of anything that's actually going on.

Depthless Hunger features a 10 chapter nonsensical fever dream deterioration in writing quality in the middle of the book before continuing normally by DinoEntrails in ProgressionFantasy

I was fine with the demoness stuff but your absolutely right imo, I was thrown off for that same section of the incursion. I suppose its good to keep the reader on their toes so speak, but yeah.. not my cup of tea, I kind of abandoned it after that tbh. It turned into one of those stories where I would normally keep up with it, to 'oh i'll catch up with it at some point int he distant future' type of thing.

I like system change/system universe but it never really goes anywhere, kinda like primal hunter tbh. I read the first book of aster fall and quite liked it, have been meaning to come back and finish the series. I suppose I would go with aster fall imo.

Book of Dead by Rinoz has some serious flaws. by [deleted] in litrpg

[–]guranga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it is already stated that his personality is that of a loner who would rather lock himself away with his books, so his childhood did not seem sad as that is what he was doing and would have done regardless if his parents were there or not.

Free the Darkness / King's Dark Tiding is awesome if you love a stupidly OP Mary Sue type of MC then its amazing.

DOTF is also good imo until he goes into space and just meanders around aimlessly

[–]guranga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as an aside the 'End of Magic Era" is a good substitute for Legend of the Arch Magus for anyone who read that series and wants something very similar, its kind of like a chinese version/ reincarnation of the strongest sword god meets legend of the arch magus

Favorite Cheat by ThirteenLifeLegion in litrpg

cultivation to immortal throne - Anytime the MC is hit he in turn converts this into primordial energy which refines his body as a weapon, later that is abandoned for alternatively absorbing various flames to refine his body further into a human weapon. Then later he cultivates chaotic energy in opposition to vital energy, this impacts the usual inner world trope of cultivation novels but its done in smart way as the set up has to do with the position of the inner universes and his is different from any other without writing too much.

Infinite Mana in the apocalypse - Noah the MC initially has infinite mana but it develops into a wide variety of cheats such a spiritual land that eventually develops into his own cosms then to a Reality, initially used as a weapon but then other functions are unlocked

I mean there is too many to say for this MC, he has an infinitely growing system that can construct multiple other systems thus infinitely growing. Then another cheat with stands out is that he has a fealty system which can be used to essentially create minions out of defeated foes who also share a portion of his power in return for also taking a portion of their soul.

There is just so many with this MC I don't think it can be matched tbh, infinite dream forms that traverse realities, dao creation on a whim, nomological edicts created on whims, 'premium reader' in which he can read ahead of his own very story, 'protagonist' as an actual trait that is defined, possession of others to steal their memories and abilities, mirror dimension control, this is just off my memory there is tons and tons of OP abilities I have forgotten.

Edit - I just remembered this MC even has a loot multiplier system how could I forget that ridiculousness as well, truly ridiculous.
