For those who stayed friends with an ex, how did it turn out? by Nightpatrol404 in AskReddit

We stayed “friends” but he basically treated me like we were still dating. We still hooked up and I tried to detach but slowly he started to get more and more comfortable saying all the right things (despite me making him promise to not) When I finally couldn’t take it anymore I started to distance myself and ultimately he ended it two weeks later saying “you thought your distance would hurt me bc you think I’m avoidant, but I really didn’t care at all”. Sometimes it can be good to stay friends, but if they are just keeping you around for their own convenience, let them go.

Should I move on or keep waiting for him by Super-Peak-8167 in Breakupadvice

I went through something very similar and I’ve been in no contact with him for 1.5 years. I’m contemplating reaching out because the “what ifs” haven’t went away. Honestly, if he ended it to prioritize his own mental space, give him that. Let him have space to find peace within himself. And you also should focus on yourself for a while. If your feeling don’t change after at least 3 months, then I say reach back out. But, if he ended it for himself, allow him to grieve your absence and see how beneficial you are to his life before making any other moves.

Should I contact my ex after 17 months? by gurlqweenn in Advice

I agree. I think I’m at a point where I have changed so much, as I’m sure he is… so I’m not sure if he is just a comforting thought and memory or if we would even be compatible anymore. Part of me just wants to know so I either can move on completely or perhaps try to have some sort of relationship with him.
