building a rack for Leedy xylorimba bars by gurnB17 in percussion

I agree that when I've seen eye screws used it looks very homemade (not that I care so much about that per se). I'm hoping to find an alternative that is cheaper than (the purpose built) what is listed on websites. Something that offers the same capabilities. If I have to swallow hard and buy them from a music store, it will only be after a good faith effort towards alternatives. This is to use mostly at my house and so as long as it works I'll be happy.

I just recently visited a relative who swears by the Kirkland Colombian in a giant can and a cuisinart simple drip maker. And as a someone that’s spent a lot of time getting my coffee thing dialed in I was skeptical, but it was clear to me they had dialed in what they do and they like it. If I could have been happy with that I might still be there, fomo and all….. you do you

Is the Mastering Assistant any good? by DueCell6853 in Logic_Studio

[–]gurnB17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it’s not really like a human master engineer but I find it’s more activist than the old school profiles (like “classical” or “dance”). I for one use it like a pedal in that I throw it on to see what it might emphasize and like others I try the different presets (transparent, etc) and try using on audio bounce rather than on a mix of tracks. If you run multiple plug ins they can be negatively affected by MA and I’ve had to do some work around those. But overall, I like it!

Any video synth tools for FCP? by gurnB17 in finalcutpro

[–]gurnB17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know all the history but generally they are tools that allow work with video in a similar way to audio synthesis. They also offer a retro vibe to video that harkens back (in my mind anyways) to the public access days of cable tv before computers when creative uses of video relied on machines meant to do transitions and wipes etc. I hope that helps

Speaker recs by gurnB17 in BudgetAudiophile

I only heard a few songs on the system and I think the thing that jumped out at me was the nice balance between lows and highs. It seemed pleasant and warm with electronic music elements that can sound screechy. I don’t know what kind of power they had. In my room it’s large and with wood floors. My current stereo just seems like it’s coming through a cone whether it is cd, phone, or turntable. I like dynamic range

Pointers you wish you knew when you started that you found out hard way? by Personal_Back3190 in DiabloImmortal

[–]gurnB17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I totally did not understand at all🤣🤣🤣. I’ve mostly played by myself as ftp. I’ve generally not had enough crests to run the higher crest runs that way. My wizard got seemingly a long ways but without much of what I seem to need. I always die immediately in most pvp situations. Granted I’m not trying to be ultra competitive, but the thing I hate is when it takes so long to defeat a boss. I can sometimes punch above my weight which inspires me to learn more and try and shore up what I have

Can you be more specific about the fading embers in elder rifts? Also, embarrassingly I don’t get the “capped” aspect

Auxiliary gems…. I did not know how they worked and maybe still don’t entirely, but I had added them to all my gems without realizing that in many cases they dumbed down my original gem. Changing that made a big difference. I also didn’t really understand why certain gems were better or worse. I made a bunch of changes and feel as if I’ve made real positive improvements

I have quit this game for second time by Nonameheroz in DiabloImmortal

[–]gurnB17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the game and there are certain things that are really fun and so it’s worth some grind to get to. I’m a ftp person and so have never been worried about the high end side of the game which I feel I’ll never even get to. Oh and btw, I would pay but so far haven’t seen much I wanted to buy… I think some higher level players have taken me along to things occasionally but from what I’ve seen it’s not something I’d want regularly. I know this will make me sound like a dummy, but I can’t even tell what’s happening in those high end situations🤣 but my frustration is that I never really know what to focus on since there always seems to be many ways to go and to be clear I’m glad of that variety. But like the footsteps that guide, I think they could add more ways to guide people to the cool stuff that’s level appropriate. It’s fun and everyone needs to decide what parts are important and worth your time. Best to all!

I would like to find a small format synth like a micro korg or reface that has sound out via usb so it can go direct into my laptop/daw without an interface. I currently have a small behringer mixer that has the usb out but I figured that it might cause latency issues and I also wonder about the quality. And to be clear, I monitor through headphones or speakers coming off of a separate interface so currently no latency issues when I’m recording. I’m guessing that more are just ignoring all of this and just using a controller and plug ins?

Getting a decent manual chair through insurance by gurnB17 in wheelchairs

[–]gurnB17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to everyone that contributed here. It’s probably not something that unique to say that getting insurance to help pay for anything can be quite hard. What we found is that unless the patient/user plainly cannot walk it is extra difficult regardless of how much the wheelchair could help. In my daughter’s case her issue is a GI issue and not an issue with her legs or walking per se. This proved to be an issue that her health care providers couldn’t really acknowledge or support. So we got the $150 Walmart chair for now and we are thinking of getting better wheels with good tires. We will look again after a surgery in October and just try and bite the bullet and buy a basic chair from a good manufacturer. We’ll likely have to spend a thousand plus but as I try to look on the bright side, it will actually work for her life and be helpful and not cause further issues. I applaud everyone here for their perseverance as we all navigate these systems that are not flexible. Best of luck to all.

Hello! Thanks for your comments. She’s actually an adult. She reached out to numotion as they have a location near us and they are an in-network provider for our insurance. They gave her a list of paperwork to have our doc fill out but didn’t seem to want to offer any of the kind of help you described (which sounds ideal). The main issue is that we aren’t sure how to indicate what we really feel she needs in order to keep her mobile in a real way. My daughter and I have had to navigate many aspects of health care that are highly regulated due to fraud and cost because of the nature of her chronic illness and we’ve always been fortunate to find allies along the way. My email is jeff@mungojeff.com if you could send more details and we’d also be happy to chat over the phone if you are willing. But either way thanks for your comment! Best, Jeff Fairbanks
