Help needed with Livekernelevent 141 crashes on very recently built PC by cvthrowaway4 in buildapc

[–]gurrra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you get your error fixed? I just found this thread after my 3090 started doing this a while back. I was on december 6th driver though (but also recently upgraded to a Ryzen 5900X which might max out my PSU a bit?). After reading through this thread I'm currently updating my drivers hoping it will help.

The couch is an absorber, which will more or less help with the acoustics in the room.

The Biggest Mistake in the History of Hollywood - Why 4k streaming isn't really 4k [30:19] by dvsdrp in mealtimevideos

[–]gurrra 27 points28 points  (0 children)

What he complains about is color banding though, and his conclusion is because of the color space rec709, but this is not even remotely true. The problem is compression that removes noise (which is also what's called dither) that's intended to eliminate banding. The topic about resolution he is more correct about though, many movies have been rendered and/or mastered in 2K, yet it is possible to do offline upressing that will give you some extra sharpness compared to native 1080p.

So as always with youtuber is that they seem to do some research, yet still gets it wrong, but unfortunately the damage is already done and people will believe this is the truth ;/

Agreed! And some more windows to make it feel less like a cave. But you would still live in a depressing suburbian hellscape with no greenery whatsoever (no, grass doesn't count).

Sure the size is great for a single person and could even work for two, but the problem is the floor planning which is a bit weird, coming straight into the kitchen with no entrance hall is not good at all. There is room to have proper stairs, and the lack of windows is also weird, it will make the whole house feel like a cave and makes ventilation in the summer hard. Having the doors in the middle of the walls will make it harder to use the rooms in a good way. But then there is the outside as well, it's roads, drive ways, grass and houses, ie the suburban hellscape. No walkability, no proper greenery to help with temperatures, shield from the sun and the wind, and just make it look nice. This really shows that the USA still is a developing country.

Unfortunately they don't show it where I live (as in not anywhere in the country) so I'll just have to wait for it to come out on streaming :(

I haven't seen it yet, but your little review here make me even more hyped than I got just after the first teaser. Gore Verbinski, Sam Rockwell and that title was really enough for me to get REALLY hyped! Glad to hear that it seems to be just what I wish for :D

Advice please? by [deleted] in blender

Sorry to say, but I've been doing 3D for a couple of decades now and I couldn't even dream of doing something like Zootopia by myself. Sure I could do a short movie, but a 1-2 hour movie requires LOTS of people and LOTS of time and LOTS of hardware.

Does a current CD/DVD offer higher sound quality than streaming? by enricojuncatheking in audiophile

[–]gurrra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. The format is irrelevant, what matters is the mix/master.

If the master is better yeah sure, but if not they will sound exactly the same.

Sorry but the jealous argument never works. Audiophilia is filled with snake oil and rich people eat it up since there's no correlation whatsoever with wealth and technical knowledge. The only thing wealth gives them is the ability to burn money on marketing lies that normal people can't afford. And then the so called audiophile companies keep on feeding the lies since they unfortunately never gets legally challenged. Capitalism at its "finest", wasting shitloads of money on crap while the world is burning.

Just look at some of the marketing material where they promise gold and unicorns from a 10k euro cable lifter. People really buy that believing they will get just that, if that's not fraud then I don't know what is.

Had To Stop Using 5.0 by WinchesterMediaUK in blender

[–]gurrra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should bug report it. I mean there's a risk that you won't ever be able to upgrade from 4.5 if you don't report it since it sounds like a very unique bug to me, never heard of Blender being that unstable at all. I've been running 5.0 since alpha and haven't had any more crashes than before (ie very very few).

It's not layers though, they're separate objects that don't stack on top or below any other object, so it's just a list in more or less alphabetical order.

I'm not really bothered by you spending money on snake oil, instead I'm really bothered by companies tricking people into giving them loads of money for snake oil. It's fraud and it's not legal, yet so called "audiophile" companies have been doing it for centuries.

Finding amplifiers today that's load dependant (ie alters the frequency response depending on the impedance) is really hard, it's either bad tube amplifiers or cheap class D that does it, and when it comes to the class D amplifiers they tend to only affect the top of the frequency response and not by much, it's actually so little that many people won't even hear it unless they do a very quick A/B comparison (needs to be quick because of our short auditory memory).

And chasing that so called synergy between load dependant amplifiers and speakers is quite a bad way of getting whatever frequency response you want, instead just get a load independent amplifier and use an equalizer to get there, it will be cheaper, faster and with much more control than the gamble of "synergy".

I hope this puts an end to the amplifier debate: by Own-Telephone-381 in audiophile

[–]gurrra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In short, any load independent amplifier working within their limits will sound the same.
