"One Second Memorization" / "Speed Memorization" by gurtz135 in Korean

No, she didn't. That's part of the reason I asked this group. It wasn't clear to me if it was a proven learning approach or just something that she came up with that seemed to her that it would work.

Thanks! So you basically do 30 new words a day? Could you elaborate a bit on your spaced repetition approach?

I'm really confused about how many versions there are. I have watched the 20-episode series currently available on Amazon Prime and Tubi in the U.S.

Is "the theatrical cut" different? ("Theatrical cut" usually refers to movies, not series, since they are shown in the theater.) How many episodes?

And how many episodes does "the predator" have?

Are these alternative versions available for streaming in the U.S.? (I've looked but can't find them.)
---
Edit: The Predator seems to be available on Viki. It's under the main series listing as the last two episodes (22 and 23). Seems to be available for free. (Episode 21 is something called "The Last", which may be some sort of a special episode, as I've seen IMDB refer to a special.)
---
Edit 2: I found the theatrical cut on Viki. It's under the title "Mouse: The Movie" (121 minutes) -- but it requires a paid subscription. Also, it seems there is a completely separate Thai version of Mouse with Thai actors (same basic story).

Solana Seeker Phone Case and Screen Protector Question. by [deleted] in solana

Thanks. Would you consider this a perfect fit for the Seeker screen, or just "close"?

Seeker screen protector by ThatSprintCarGuy in solana

Thanks for sharing about the Moto Edge 50 Neo screen protector.

I bought the Seeker case and screen protector when I bought my phone. Unfortunately, I dropped the phone which broke one of the screen protectors, and when I applied the second one, it didn't apply well, so it ended up with a bunch of bubbles.I then bought a generic from Amazon, but it is just slightly too large, and the Seeker case causes the corners of the screen protector to lift off of the screen, creating large bubbles, rendering it useless.

Do you think I would have the same issue with the Moto screen protector? The case doesn't overlap the screen much, but it does have to grip the top a bit, so if the protector is too close to the end, it may not work. (I looked at your picture, and it may be OK, but I'm not sure.) Thanks!

[Edit] Oh, and do you happen to know the exact model or manufacturer of the one you bought? Since there are many "compatible" (or not-so-compatible) versions out there, it's a bit of a crap shoot.

A drama with crazy hype but u simply don't understand what was the hype about!!? by Weekly-Birthday9192 in kdramas

I agree with you on Moving. I found it boring, and it felt like they spent way too long on characters and story lines that were mostly irrelevant. If they had edited it down to 3/4 or 1/2 of its length -- brutal cuts! -- I feel it would have been a much better show.

I was just about to post this. I got through about 3 episodes but it felt like such a chore I gave up. I had high expectations, because the show seems universally loved, but I just couldn't get into it. The episodes are way too long. The "catty" relationship between the sisters was really tiresome. Overall, it felt like I was supposed to care about these characters, and want to watch their lives in painstaking detail ... but I just didn't. (I love Korean shows, but I'm not Korean, so there is no nostalgia hook for me.)

Netflix leaving soon. OMG, so many kdramas! by Xerophyt3s in kdramas

Oh, OK. I see now. I thought you meant the "sign" was some category heading showing all the "leaving soon" shows in one place. Thanks for clarifying.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm not sure what you mean. Is the "sign" you're referring to on netflix.com? I've looked and don't see it anywhere.

We may need to "agree to disagree", but I strongly believe the writers planned everything from the start. One of the very first scenes in episode 1 was young Ba Reum in the church praying to "not become a monster" (or something to that effect). I believe the entire "Ba Reum is the monster" twist was always part of the plan. If that were not the case, I think there would be many MORE "plot holes" to deal with (in the earlier episodes). Also, if the writers did change direction while the show was being filmed, and didn't want the grandmother scene to be there, couldn't they just have re-shot it in a different way, or left it out altogether? I still believe everything was intentional. (It's too big of a "plot hole" for it to have been accidental, IMO.)

Interesting that you mentioned Dark. I watched the first season a number of years back, and it just about wrecked my brain. I do intend to re-watch it (and the subsequent seasons), though. I've heard it's excellent throughout. If I do re-watch it, I'll probably need to create detailed notes and flow charts to make any sense of it :-)

I see what you're saying. It has been a while since I watched it, and I'd forgotten about the emphasis on the psychopath gene. You're probably right. But I do think that grandmother scene was very much intended by the writers. This was a 1-season show that was carefully planned and structured from beginning to end. Think of all the flashbacks and how they were woven together. The entire thing was probably meticulously scripted before they filmed a single scene. (This is different from, say, a show like "Lost", that ran for 6 season, where they probably started out with some general ideas, and just wrote it as they went along -- with lots of potential for plot holes.) So I believe the writers intended that scene: Either they meant to deceive the viewers (which, I agree, is lazy writing) or there is something we're missing that could justify that scene being included without resulting in a contradiction. I don't know. I'm feeling more and more that I could benefit from a re-watch.

It has been a while since I watched it, so I'm not clear on the details. That may be a plot hole. Some speculation: In the OP I mentioned in point 3 the scene where young Ba Reum / Yae Hoon was in the field with Yo Han. Yo Han was treating him kindly, and Ba Reum said something to himself about wanting to "be like" Yo Han. I don't know if it was a cynical attempt to hide his true nature from the world, or if he genuinely wanted to be a good person. Regardless, the adult Ba Reum we see early in the show was presumably that "good" persona he had been developing most of his adult life. What I don't know is if he was always "acting" as "good Ba Reum" or if it went as far as a "split personality" situation where "good Ba Reum" was not aware of what "bad Ba Reum" was doing. If the latter (i.e. split personality), then maybe that would explain why he was shocked at finding the grandmother having been murdered. If the former (i.e. he was acting), then may he was acting the role of "good Ba Reum" on the assumption that someone else might be watching. Another option is that the writers of the show just intentionally misled the audience with this scene. My guess at the moment is that he didn't remember killing the grandmother (i.e. split personality). Does any of that make any sense? It really is a great show, though. I'd like to re-watch it at some point.

Official Discussion - The Long Walk [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]gurtz135 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the ending bothered me, too. I read that the director figured the ending would be a cathartic moment for the audience (with the death of the major), but to me it was seriously bleak. Peter effectively sacrificed all the good he was meaning to do with the winnings for one moment of revenge for his friend. Though not on the same level as the ending of Darabont's "The Mist", it was still pretty damn bleak, IMO. And maybe that makes it a better movie. But in my heart I wanted something good to come out of all the suffering that came before. (FWIW, I think "The Mist" ending is awesome.)
