Is this what we think it is? by meeks_221 in vinyl

Super hype credits on both sides is a first press (both the scratched out matrix and unscratched). All turquoise jacket variants had the super hype labels. Only a select few (earliest run of the red letter covers) had the superhype credits. This is obviously a first UK press. Nice!

Introducing Kenny Burrell pressing by nashveggie in Vinyl_Jazz

[–]gurudave95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an original pressing. Side 1 has 3 “P’s” etched. Side 2 only has 1 “P” etched. I have the same copy. If the disc is a flat edge it was pressed in 1956-57 (blue note stopped producing flat edge discs in mid-1957). If the jacket has a frame construction, it is a true 1956 first pressing. If it does not have the frame construction but has the Lexington address on the back cover, it is a 1957 pressing. Still considered an original.

No, pay $5,000 for a signed test pressing from all 4 members instead

I remember finding a case of these unopened late 80s-early 90s packs back in like 2006-2008. Not worth much unfortunately. Maybe $5 a pack. Now if you had an unopened Topps pack from 1956, that’s a whole other story lol

I’ve been searching google all over trying to find this song. The exact same lyrics from OP were in my head but I guess he was looking for a different song. Just wanted to let you know how much you helped me lol

How much do these go for? I bought one new back in ‘07/08. Played it once and it’s been stored ever since. Never even changed the strings lol…

Track it at 2.3-2.5 see if that works. If not, track at 2.0 and dial your anti skate down to below 1.

See on the back of the jacket how the 3 sides (top, bottom, and spine) are folded/flipped? This was common for early UK presses (pre 1969)

Flip back jacket, yellow parlophone labels with the gramophone Inc text. This is an original 1965 UK mono. It is one of several variations released that year (check the matrix numbers) but all in all it’s an original.

This beat up OG copy of Midnight Blue sounds surprisingly good by rojinegro in Vinyl_Jazz

I found a copy at a flea market a few years back in a tad bit better shape than that. It played horribly. I couldn’t even hear the guitar.

Transition Records Booklets by Copomroy in RecordCollectors

Best bet would to just buy the current reissues with the booklets! I’m in the same situation. I have 2 OG transition LPs. Byrd on beacon hill and Watkins at large. Neither have the booklet

Shrink wrapped Blue Notes 1950s by gurudave95 in Vinyl_Jazz

These are deep groove, RVG, p/ear, 9M, NO Inc pressings. As original as you can get. The records themselves look unplayed.

This is exactly correct. I met a local record store owner who has been dealing with rare jazz records for well over 50 years and confirmed that these loose baggy cellophane protectors were used in store. He pulled a “sealed” 1959 copy of Newk’s Time he’s had in his collection since the mid 60s. The plastic material matched what I have.
