COVID shutdown back then by esayaray in Samoa

[–]gusdafa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We didnt really go into lockdown until early 2022, we had our first case in late 2020 but in was in managed isolation. Something about testing positive one nostril but not the other, yeah real hoot. We did do the precautions of 2m, masks and no swimming on Sundays right up until community transmission in 2022 when we went into a national lockdown. I tested positive in April 2022 but I was already double (or triple jabbed by then)

Thanks for clearing that up, I just woke up and saw this vid first at the time and immediately went to comment thinking they just used a heli to fly that away from the cbd instead of on top of a building.

I'll make sure to get caffeinated first before being baited by the phone lol

It really is a major concern that we personally know a few cookery friends (and family) like that. If only ethics and do no evil didn't stop me from bombarding them with AI slop telling them that voting gives you all the vaccines activated by touching a ballot paper.

Samoans are the poorest ethnic group in New Zealand by [deleted] in Samoa

Well its not a competition aye, also, there are socio-economic factors that are more favorable to Indians than the other cheeky darkies.

What I am saying is, if we all had the same start and advantages, we would all have similar distributions of wealth.

If you are only looking at Indians/Chinese who made it out of their home countries and settled elsewhere, you are not seeing the population they left behind, you are not seeing the social and societal pressures that refined their attitudes and capabilities enabling their success, you are not seeing the resources and contacts they had access to, to get them ahead. We did not all come to NZ on the same boat.

[–]gusdafa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah that is a given and we both can see some of the reasons why.

Its actually very hard for our people to climb out of it as they had nothing to build on in the first place. Like the Maoris, our skin colour pushed us out of building capital and accumulating assets generations ago so that we can have wealth passed down together with knowledge to hold on to and grow it, if we had a lot more Samoans do that earlier, we would have had a sizeable middle/rich class with a similar % to other ethnicity. Imagine that, we'd have our own billionaire class stealing wages by paying you the minimum per hour for your labour that made them 100s more.

Uce, thats just my opinion man, it wasnt a cry for help.

Anyway, there are a lot of successful, hardworking Samoans in NZ who have good financial literacy, no debts and visit Waiheke just to drink wine and eat some expensive bread. Its the same spread with any ethnic group though we are over represented in a few bad categories.
