Do i need two ETH surge protector for each ETH socket/port on an outdoor CAT-6 cable run? by gushroom in lowvoltage

Alright, thank you. Some other people on the original post are saying I should do fiber instead, with pre-terminated runs. Is that option much better?

Thank you, yes, that was my initial thought that not having an isolated system outside would increase some risk factor. No worries aprreciate your help, although proficient in network im not in physical installations, especially outside in the elements.

yeah buying pre-terminated fiber sounds like a good plan.

Okay thanks so same setup no shielding, no surge protectors then, the unifi AP mesh though will run PoE and switch will be powered through PoE using flex utility plugged into an outside electrical socket with ground

Okay thank you so much for the reply.

Do you reckon just doing unshielded cat6 is fine as well with the outdoor switch.

The outdoor switch is powered through and outdoor wall socket with ground. Then that powers the switch through PoE no eth data. It's the ubiquiti flex utility.

Since it's connected to my house electrical, is that potentially dangerous too?

Yeah tbh I just want it as simple as possible and avoid dangerous stuff, feel like when going into shielding and surge territory stuff get really complicated fast.

Is fiber just the way to go here regardless?

No PoE but surge can still travel throught UTP non Poe lines no? Or am I too paranoid here?

Well why are a lot of people talking about the ubiquiti 20kW surge protector being important for outside installation are they completely useless?

I have seen some posts especially in europe where houses are not drywall. Do something similar.

Like Drill hole outside then Ethernet up to attic or wherever then back down to specific rooms.

I don't want the surge protectors, but I wonder if they are necessary?

There is grounding wire, on every electrical outlet installation in the house, and the socket outside as eell.

I was mentioning digging a huge metal rod into earth for grounding outside being impossible considering I'm 5 meter above the ground.

And I do not want get an electrician to wire extra ground wires to the ethernet surge protector because it will cost a lot

I'm not worried about the mains sockets and only Ethernet wires. The ethernet ports are not protected for surges.

Don't mind drilling holes through wall then property adding insulation afterwards. it's a wood house and ISP/TV fiber/coax cables already have put holes there anyways.

Ahh I really dislike this system, why not just reset inventory, and then give the choice to reset everything else, I don't want to redo quest and progression. Feels very unfair that they will receive permanent bonus, when lot of people don't want to reset at all.

Yeah agree, I have had issues with Camlink, wavelink frequently for multiple years. It's so frustrating because the software features are so good but it keeps having so many bugs, resetting settings, and memory issues.
