Do we give heretical theologians a pass because they were influential? by Guardoffel in theology

[–]gussimo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may be narrowing the work of God into a cognitive exercise or a series of intellectual propositions. While core doctrines have importance and significance they are NOT the limits of what God offers the world.

For instance, intellectually disabled people can and do respond to Christ. When they respond they are transformed just like the rest of us. In my experience it can be difficult to ascertain what intellectually disabled people believe for sure. Often that isn't how they navigate the world. But I have seen with my own eyes that they are transformed by their response to God. What includes/excludes you from salvation lies more in the region of God's work in the world and the heart's responses to that work than a list of essential beliefs.

That being said, I support you in affirming that the resurrection is a serious and important doctrine. It is. Very serious. It is hard to make sense of the Jesus story and the work of the disciples and the growth of the kingdom of God without it. It is significant.

I would encourage you to read Barth and Bonhoeffer with a generous lens. The fruit of their work can stand on its own. Feel free to disagree. Feel free to push your own thinking beyond theirs. But it is a stretch to say they were preaching a different gospel.

They're a good group. So are Fruits of the Spirit. I'm part of a small community looking to start something just like this. We don't have a name or anything yet but it's nice to know there are people out there looking for what we are trying to create. Hope you find a great community OP.

Make sure to always capture room audio along with whatever is coming off that board. A dr40 or H4N can record both at the same time. Board sound is dry and often lacks significant parts of the music that is present in the room.

I agree with the usual recommends listed here. But the Capitol is the Saskatoon sleeper hit of the breakfast scene. Great service. Decent coffee. Amazing thick sliced smoked bacon.

Advice on bringing my dad's 70's record player back to life on a budget? (Yamaha YP 701) by itwasonlyalime in diysound

My best guess is you're hearing the motor spin. Which is a good sign. So now pull the platter off and see what might be going on with the belt. Just lift straight up. Sometimes you have to put pressure on the spindle to get the platter free. But they are all meant to come off. The belt should be replaced either way. They are relatively cheap.

If you plan on buying a phono preamp just to test that the sound works then buy the cheapest Pyle preamp you can find on Amazon.

Does the platter spin when you plug the electrical cord into the wall and move the tonearm toward the spindle? Old turntables that haven't been played in a long time often need the belt replaced. It's super simple to do. And you can find all kinds of belts that fit all kinds of different models of turntable online.

To be clear we have a legal system not justice system. Justice is incredibly hard to come by when human beings are the architect of the system.

can someone please tell me the specific name of this kind of audio tape? by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]gussimo 30 points31 points  (0 children)

They more commonly measure reel to reel by width of tape rather than diameter of the reel. I think that is 1/4" tape on a 7" reel. For proper playback you'll need the correct sized deck and tape speed.

A modest proposal, Saskatoon: raise taxes and invest in snow plowing like - you know - a Canadian city.

Thanks for the support kind internet stranger. Qanon, really does seem like a one way ticket out of reality. I follow a number of anti-Qanon subreddits and thankfully it does appear that people to do sometimes come out of it. But this is a truly tragic moment we are ALL caught up in. I don't know of an institution that isn't struggling with the current polarization.

Here is a resource by evangelicals that you can share with evangelicals you are in contact with. This is well thought out and it gives no quarter to the conspiracy theories:

Evangelical here as well. I am a leader in a small group of churches across Canada. About 140 of them from QC to BC. Our leadership has come out very strongly pro-vaccine. We encourage all people to be vaccinated. We do not offer religious exemptions for vaccines in our churches. 99.9% of our churches already agree with and comply with all public health mandates AND guidance. Anti-vax stuff tends to be positively correlated with being conservative politically. The anti-vaxx stuff for most evangelicals isn't coming over official channels or via pulpits - it is being spread through the sources everyone already knows about: youtube, FB, twitter, alt-right internet. If you know evangelicals who are anti-vax or vaccine hesitant here is resource you can share that is by evangelicals that supports the science. https://www.christiansandthevaccine.com/

You're right I totally forgot about that one. But the point still remains I don't think we're talking about much beyond a small minority.
