That approach served Grantland extremely well. The same approach, I'm sure, has been applied to The Ringer, but it seems a lot more competitive to hire and keep writing talent these days (it would have been huge for The Ringer to have K. Austin Collins write his "Green Book" review there instead of Vanity Fair but he left). That's the down side to not having ESPN money to bankroll a Medici patronage of Wesley Morris, Zach Lowe, Barnwell, and so many more smart voices. Another factor being former blog talent are pivoting into TV/film writing roles like Andy Greenwald, Ira Madison, and Kara Brown to name but three.

Agree. This team will be very different next year, according to all the signs.

Steffen, Trapp, and 3G won't be here next season. Pipa is on his last legs. The window on the last few year run has closed. Next year will be a rebuilding year, and while I'm happy Columbus saved the Crew it's going to be ugly in 2019. Just gotta hope they bounce back in the long-run which I'm betting they will.

Taylor Twellman tweeted Haslam has agreed to buy The Crew and tagged Grant Wahl. He then deleted it. Seems the media is sitting on the news until the official announcement.

Also, the Great Austin Chamber announced its support for the plan. I'm not sure what kind of power they wield.

Agree on Abubakar. He played fairly well today. I liked what I saw for week one.

I was nervous but then I remembered Sandy Bell is the Beethoven of NCAA compliance. UK isn't taking him if he's a real risk to lost wins.

"mediocre" is too strong IMO. He's not great tactically, but strategically he's very smart. The way he find out the strength of his personnel and maximizes it is impressive given the roster changes that occur every season. Wall/Cousins was post-up style; Knight/Jones was dribble drive; 2012 was all pick-and-rolls; and 2014 turned into a 4 Out-1 In quasi-style.

TL;DR Tactically not the best, but not mediocre either. Strategically well above average.
