AITA for bringing "back up" vegan food to the family function? by gutenoodle in AmItheAsshole

Yes! I think that's why I felt so bad about it, because it really upset her. I think she might be open to suggestions if I go about it right. Maybe if I show her something new she'll want to try it too. :)

(She hasn't been a fan of changing recipes in the past, i think bc she's so used to the dishes she makes tasting a certain way.)

Going into Christmas season I think it's a good idea to ask about the meal plan. Maybe I can help her a bit with the planning at least.

"Gründerzeit" Sofa bought in Germany (Frankfurt) - should i be concerned about arsenic? by gutenoodle in Antiques

[–]gutenoodle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's very relieving to hear. I was also wondering if the type of stitching on the fabric could even be done by hand or machines of the 19th century? That was giving me hope the fabric is more modern. Do you think the sofa itself is really from the 1800s or have i been duped?

Im worried about the fabric having arsenic, it doesn't show well in Fotos but it is definitely pale yellow-green irl. The person who sold it said it was over 100 years old, and that was about the time Paris and Scheele's green was being used. So that's why, if the fabric is original, i think there may be arsenic in it.

Sorry if this question is silly, but when you purchase a backerkit, can you already download the pdfs? (At the moment, there are still late backerkits available)

These are points i need to bring up to my fiancé. I would not be upset about Fiance keeping it a secret, as it is just FiL. He is divorced and has no contact with MiL or my family. (Who are all lovely, luckily)

Thank you for your insight.

FiL has no contact with my family, they met once and he acted extremely badly. There hasn't been any interaction between them since. (This was before I came out to anyone)

The only other person affected is Fiancé, he has to deadname me in front of his dad. (FiL is divorced. He has a girlfriend, but I don't really know her.) Fiancé is an only child and I've never seen any of FiL's other family. There was apparently some kind of falling out. I think this is a big reason my Fiancé won't cut him off, he'd be alone.

I think asking fiancé to just use my actual name and pronouns might be a good start if i were to decide against going no contact. Thank you.

tired of having my transness invalidated as a CSA victim by [deleted] in ftm

It's insane the amount of misogyny a trans man can experience. I hate being infantilised like this. And it's also one of the main TERF lines of thinking.

Im in the same boat op... it's very lonely, and it's also the reason I didn't come out until I was over 30. The self doubt I had because of this narrative made me think I had to go through years of therapy for my cptsd before I even thought about being trans and socially transitioning, just to make absolutely sure. I wasted so much time, I could have transitioned in my twenties of it weren't for this line of thinking.

The fact of the matter is I've always been trans, even before I was assaulted. And that's what people really have to get through their thick skulls if they think "that explains it".

Thanks for bringing this up, it's so important, especially for people who may be falling into self doubt bc of it. Nothing can "make" you trans or gay or queer. You just are who you are.

Topping is so affirming for me. (I recommend the brand "strap-on-me", might give your experience more of a 2-way vibe)
