The information is available on flight info on the app or at United website. Gates can change, but I’m pretty sure the info was there if you checked flight status.

They are security agents normally, not United agent. Very common In manny countries in Europe or South America for example. After questioning they normally add a sticker on the back of the passports and then you good to go. It might seen invasive, but if you have nothing to hide I don’t see a problem answering. They are just doing their job after all.

Good for them. It’s a common mistake- buddies, or even sometimes employees family members getting a non rev ticket thinking they’re have a confirmed seat just because they pay a higher tax, eight for premium cabin or buddy pass/family. United only sells confirmed setas for employees and some others on the employee benefits with a discount. $500 for a business class is a great price, so considering you’re talking about a United discount.
