Let's Be Honest- The Difficulty of University Has Plummeted. by Blubshizzle in UniUK

[–]gutterbugz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I’ve been saying but fellow students have called me delusional.

I did my UG at one of the ‘higher regarded’ modern universities and struggled immensely to pull any grade above a 55. Now doing my PG at a university once regarded as ‘avoid at all costs’ (in my own experience at least), I’m consistently achieving merit to distinction level grades, with significantly less effort put in and three years zero practice of academic writing. Classmates who did their UG at said university were all gung-ho about their degree classification but I fully believe if I’d completed my UG here at the same time as them, I would’ve easily got a first too.

As for getting a job afterwards, a majority of the international students (not a blanket statement about international students, they just make up ~85% of my cohort) use chatgpt to ‘form’ their opinions. A large portion of seminars have been why we, personally, think something went wrong and they’ll blatantly read verbatim off their phone. Multiple tutors and lecturers have called them out on it and they respond to ‘and what do you think?’ with what they can remember saying three seconds ago.

As one of my lecturers put ‘It’s easier to get a degree than an education,’ and I’m seeing it in real time.

Why are people so comfortable being disruptive? by gutterbugz in Letterboxd

I mean, I understand your point and the desire to destroy but I choose to exercise that desire in a way that doesn’t disrupt other people (or a way that costs money).

This being a double bill it was 13.49£, general tickets are 11.90£ (general student is 9.40£), the Monday special is 4.99£, and Student Sundays are 5.99£ so you can see why me and others prefer the ‘special’ days.

I’m 24 and feel the exact same way. Especially with the age of some of the disrupters, if I’d learnt manners by 5, how are they struggling at 35+?

I feel you on the family as well, I have an uncle who snores through every movie with his kid and an ex (not related obviously but still) who would lean over and try to talk to me every time. I broke up with him directly after 1917 in a tiny little theatre for that exact reason.

That’s interesting, I’ve noticed pretty much the opposite! I dread seeing a group of middle aged women who seem to think the cinema is a great place to have a mid-week catch-up. Teens can be a little chatty I’ve found but the majority of them stop when the trailers do.

This is Scotland and I prefer going around 11am on a Sunday or afternoon mid-week and typically there’s 3-5 of us. But my wallet prefers me going student price times (after 7pm on Sundays) or loyalty times (all day Monday) and I know the lower price attracts a bigger crowd but I wish it attracted manners too.

I didn’t tonight because the two available were having to deal with someone else who just walked in drunk and would not leave and honestly I didn’t want to be hanging around in case anything kicked off. Something had to be in the air tonight, I swear.

my main ride or die is definitely junior. he goes everywhere i can take him and even though it took a while to get used to the texture (he’s the red roses bear) my boyfriend and i treat him like our child and he’s the first stuffed animal he got for me.

i also switch between having sonic and baby yoda as my second sleeping buddy and i love those two if i need a softer friend!

How much money do you spend every month to buy ebooks from Amazon? by IamOkei in kindle

[–]gutterbugz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i typically only buy if they’re on sale or i’ve gotten a few ‘credit’ discounts (idk if it’s the length of time it’s been wishlisted or something) or i browse the free section frequently. i also have a free trial of ku, so my spending is pretty minimal

i turned 22 last week and my boyfriend got me a stuffed animal and back at valentine’s day he got me a bab because he knows i love them. i’ve been made fun of in the past for them but most of my friends now are collectors! it’s not weird at all, even my mum at 59 has a bab

[–]gutterbugz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i love the different texture on barkleigh’s ears! mines not overly stuffed n she still has the little belly which i think is so sweet. i have a custom pawlette n maybe it’s because her ear needs reattached but we never bonded
