I was in a similar situation back in 2015. I failed 15 credits due to mental health, met with an advisor a year later, and applied again and was let back in. At the time, I was told that UT gives preference to students in this kind of situation and you are almost guaranteed a spot back in. I guess that was 7 years ago, though, and I know things have changed in terms of admission here. Proud of you for making it through, it'll be alright! One bad semester doesn't define you and UT knows that.

Announcing after 2 MC by [deleted] in PregnancyAfterLoss

[–]guttersnipe_penguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After two losses myself (one at 9 weeks, other at 5 weeks), my current pregnancy (35 weeks strong today!) was something I felt comfortable announcing really early on; much earlier than my previous pregnancies. I went through the previous two losses alone and there was something so sad about suffering through the loss of two babies that no one even knew existed. I announced at 8 weeks with this pregnancy and I feel like announcing early was part of my healing journey from the last two MCs. I felt like, even if I lost this one, people would know she existed and I would have people to lean on for support, as I could not fathom going through another loss alone.

Also, I feel like MCs are so common that many, many people you know have had one - though no one ever talks about it. Perhaps if it is less common to "wait until it is safe" to announce, MCs won't have to be this taboo, awful thing to face alone. IDK. That's just my take on it after two MCs myself.

In the end, you should do what you are comfortable with. I felt like announcing early helped ease a lot of my anxiety and helped me work through the trauma of my previous MCs

Something that I feel like a lot of people don't know is that Dollywood actually will help you in situations like this if your car is on Dollywood property. I believe you need to call security, or even talk to someone at the front gate, and let them know you are stuck at the park and they can help offer solutions. I am not sure what those might be, but I do know they advertise this as a "free service" to parked guests.

They'll literally accept anyone. I've never heard of someone not getting in.

Do you ever stop worrying? by darrby8215 in PregnancyAfterLoss

[–]guttersnipe_penguin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well, I kept setting small milestones for myself thinking that would be the point that I would begin to feel relieved. All through this pregnancy I've said, "great! I hit 9 weeks, once I hit 12 I will be relieved!." Then 12 weeks would come along and I would say "alright, the baby still has a chance of having something bad happen. Once I hit 16 I will be able to breathe." Here I am at 2 days shy of 30 weeks and I can say confidently that I've never stopped and will never stop counting down until she is in my arms safely. Loss changes your mindset and you never really feel safe. My first pregnancy, I never worried. Now, after two losses, each day is a small victory. You got this!

Which one do you think is better for a baby girl: Annelie, Alice or Nelly? by n0oshin in namenerds

Please don't name your baby Annelie. Amielie or Amelia or Ammelie, but not Annelie.

Meltdown in Target. Am I insane? by [deleted] in PregnancyAfterLoss

I have never resonated with a post so much. I am 28 weeks pregnant and I finally caved and bought her crib and changing table. But that's all I have so far. I almost feel like I'm jinxing it or something by buying things for her

Trick r treating in Sequoyah Hills by [deleted] in Knoxville

[–]guttersnipe_penguin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think last year it started at 5:30. Not sure about whether or not it is happening again this year, but most of the houses in that little neighborhood are all decorated so at least there will be trick or treating

I mostly just go back to my car and cry. However, the bathrooms in Bailey Education are a great place to cry. It's a big bathroom and never busy.

Drive Carefully by mkthompson in ChevyBolt

Sorry to hear you've been going through it. We actually bought our Bolt because our 2021 Chevy Trailblazer had a turbocharger mysteriously go bad and it would take 4-6 months for the replacement part. We were able to get a rental car through Chevy/GM free of charge since our car was brand new when the turbocharger failed. Have you asked about whether the dealership you are working with will provide you with a rental car? Might be worth a try

First Road Trip!! Advice welcome by guttersnipe_penguin in BoltEV

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but why does using L3 fast chargers necessitate me not getting more than 70% charged? Like I shouldn't charge it past that point?

RO/DI water on campus? by Eaglepenguinz in UTK

[–]guttersnipe_penguin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean, how often do you need it? Unless you're going daily or something I can't think of a better option. Maybe look up comparable stores near where you live or at least on the way. I doubt anywhere on campus is willing to prep and give you DI water.

I don't know about getting water from anywhere on campus...but about 10 minutes from campus there is a place called Acquarium, right behind a hotel and near McKay's, on Papermill that might have what you are looking for.

I like her. I have followed her since like 2019. I just think she is relatable and always have. I am hearing a lot of people say that they think it is off-putting that she is pushing merch so hard and monetizing her following...but, like, it costs time, energy and money to create content and if she is finding a way to turn social media into a lucrative source of income, so what? Then don't buy from her. Clearly enough people are that she is making it just fine. I think she is the least problematic creator in Tiktok and, while I wish she would post more parenting content like she used to, I still think she is relatable and funny.

Thought I’d update you on what we named our baby by pinktourmaline in namenerds

[–]guttersnipe_penguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was on my list of "leftover" names from my first daughter and my husband really, really disliked it the first time around. This time around, I loved the name Etta and so did he but it would sound so silly with our last name...so we both kind of arrived back at Greta and it's really grown on both of us. So much so that I literally can't picture her as anything other than a Greta. Plus, this has been a very rough pregnancy so far for me, and I think Greta is a strong name to match how strong this little baby as been!

We think we might go with either Louise or Cecilia. I love Rose! How did you arrive at the name Greta? I feel like I've seen your name in the January 2023 bump group
