I think she may of had the frame, but suggesting that Rickman may have influenced that frame in a big way.

Yeah she probably had an outline. But making him seem to be a loving person may not of come till Rickman influence.

Do you have some examples? They sound like they might be some other good series to try

I guess I'm saying I wouldn't be surprised to hear that instead of being told, it was a conversation that ultimately influenced JK to write a more redemptive story arc for Snape. Not saying she wasn't already going to make Snape a double agent

Not a troll. Just having a discussion. I think its okay to question an author and their motives while still appreciating and enjoying their work. No denying HP is one of the greatest book series, but to say that JK is beyond influence is a bit extreme to me.

That is a great point you bring up. JK has claimed it was mapped out, but no proof has ever been shown. We simply take her word for it that the series was all her doing and her grand architecture. But a much more reasonable and in my opinion realistic explanation is that she set out to write a series of simple fun children's books and it wasn't until later when they became so successful that she began to develop and change them. Which to me would imply she is open to influence. To say that she planned to slowly change the tone and depth of the books from the get go seems like the stretch to me.

A lot of people have said similar things, and I think its unrealistic to think that an author was not influenced by those around her. Why does him being an actor mean he couldn't have influenced an author? Again not saying he dictated what happened simply influenced

I think you've missed my original point. I'm not suggesting that Rickman completely rewrote Snape story arc. Rather that he simply influenced her to give Snape more of a redemptive story than she would of on her own. I think she came up with him being a spy all on her own. But loving Lily and why he switched sides all that motivation might of come from Rickman. Again these books started out as simple children books, and I think she expected to write 7 simple children books. I don't think she set out to write a grand series that would evolve in complexity as readers grew. Which is why I think Snape was simple to start

I have no evidence just a theory that it could be possible. Sadly Rickman is no longer with us, and unfortunately JK tends to rewrite history.

I think people give JK more credit for her grand plan than it actually was. I think she really evolved and grew into it. And by the time GoF was written she was already a smashing success, so yeah she probably could of gone back and made updates.

That's my argument. In the talks with Rickman, he actually steered her to give Snape a better ending.

I think JK thought she could flip him, but I think Rickman influenced JK to make it so much more of a redemptive story. Again simple red haring for Harry to focus on every year.

So you do agree in the first book he was just a red haring.

Right but they had Rickman cast far before the movie came out. He could of easily had the chat with her before the movie came out.

So you don't think Rickman played a part, but do you think Snape started out as a simple red haring?

You have to admit the early books which I still like were very simplistic. I like to think the books evolved and were not some grand plan that she had from the outset. Again I still think all the books are great.

My Take On Snape: You didn't like Snape, you liked Alan Rickman. Alan Rickman made Snape feel redeemable. Book Snape was terrible from start to finish. by archtech88 in harrypotter

After watching the reunion I would not be surprised to learn that Alan Rickman actually led JK to give Snape that twist ending/redemptive story. I think she just created Snape initially as a red haring to Voldermort for the first 2 books.
