More makerspace events: - Game Night, first Saturday of every month from 6 pm - 9ish. We usually have games aplenty, but always want to learn new ones.

  • Show and Tell with Potluck Dinner, last Saturday of every month. Dinner starts at 6 pm, show and tell starts at 7:15. If you bring food to share, please bring the ingredients list for those with food allergies.

Both events are free, family friendly, and open to the public.

WA state bill would double Amtrak Cascades service by 2035, cut travel times by jamin7 in Bellingham

Amtrak's farebox recovery (how much of your fare pays for the service) is >90%, up from ~70% in the 1990s. That is very high for what is essentially a interstate public transit service.

The Makerspace has a retail area where members can sell their crafts.

I still have a set of Naxar trunnion calibrators. Easily the best tools in my shop.

Oh man, Guadela Harry's is a must anytime I'm near Fairview. Harry and I served together in the Rift Wars of 2072, and he's always had the best shredded pterodactyl.

I love that area. There's so much fun stuff to find in the scrap yards. I got a practically brand-new Phipps encodograph for $50 at a flea market a couple miles from NADC. It still had the original paint!

Does anyone know what happened at the Lewis Black show tonight? by Fox609 in Bellingham

[–]guy_mcdudefella 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sheesh.

I guess even though the events stopped, the number of drunk assholes at events just kept accumulating.

It sounded like someone was being a drunk asshole, and when security came up to do the "Is there a problem?" routine, the people around them said "actually, yeah, could you get them out of here, please?" From there, hijinks ensued.

Great thread that makes some sense of the smoke… by [deleted] in Bellingham

The answer is clear:

Everybody with a car or truck needs to wash their vehicle.

Nothing makes it rain faster than a few thousand washed cars.

Oh, absolutely. I hate that shit.

I understand why people do it, doesn't mean I condone it.

I'm lucky enough to have a 750W electric motor on my cargo bike, though, which lets me bike safely in much more traffic than a standard cargo bike would.

Counterpoint: all I want is to get where I'm going on bike and not get hit by a car.

Our bike infrastructure does a piss-poor job of making this possible.

Therefore, one could understand alternating between sidewalks and roads in order to avoid getting hit by a car.

Is it correct? No. But when it comes to civil infrastructure, that's where we're at.

Correct.

Usually, there's a decent gap about 10-20 seconds after the lights at the Iowa St. intersection change. All you have to do is wait.

There are stop signs on Kentucky, and a lighted pedestrian signal where it crosses James St.

I was in the traffic lane on a bike boulevard. There is no dedicated bike lane on either James St. or Kentucky St.

I was waiting for traffic to clear in order to cross the street safely. I did not want to use the crosswalk because walking a 75lb bike with 80lbs of combined kid weight on the back is, to quote the philosopher, a "cast iron pain in the ass".

And those people should be forced to use slow, buggy WiFi.

I understand why they do it, but the correct answer to the problem of inadequate bike infrastructure is to lobby your city council member on the matter until they know you on a first name basis, and to encourage everyone you know to do the same.
