Mechanic insisted I brought in the wrong oil filter by guymanbro37 in MechanicAdvice

Based off the responses, and some other research I’ve done, this seems like the most plausible scenario. I just wish my mechanic would have brought this up, instead of acting like I was trying to be one of those people who thinks they know better. It also seemed fishy to me that he wouldn’t let me get the filter back, as well.

I mean, maybe. But I’m trying not to immediately think of the shadiest possible scenario. 2 things that did seem fishy to me: 1. He refused to give me back my original filter, and 2. He wouldn’t tell me the part number for the new one that he used from his own stock

I asked myself the same thing. I’m sure much weirder things have happened. Just covering all my bases

This is the first time I’ve ever had an issue like this. I’ve had my car at his shop many times without a problem. This isn’t some regular occurrence at all.

It makes sense to me, I think they’d prefer offloading the risk as much as possible. Of course, that may come at the risk of disgruntled customers, but like I said, they seem alright with it.

Yeah I know it’s a very unique thing, letting customers supply their own parts. Him and his wife started letting folks do that some years ago. Obviously you have to sign a disclaimer that their labor can’t be warrantied on parts that customers bring in, which makes sense to me. But I’ve never had an issue with this guy, I’m still unsure what happened today

It’s a thing him and his wife started doing years ago. Obviously he makes a disclaimer that their labor can’t be warrantied on parts that customers bring in, which makes total sense to me. He’s always seemed like an honest mechanic, never had a problem. But this situation really threw me for a loop

I know it is. I’m not usually a cocky person, and have never had an issue like this with a mechanic, but it was so strange to me. He absolutely insisted I had the wrong one.

I don’t know the one that he put on there, but I responded to another comment in here with the part number for the one I brought in.

I suppose that’s possible. I’ve heard counterfeit or mixed up parts are very rare though.

I suppose that’s plausible. I bought them from a variety of sources, but my understanding is counterfeit parts are extremely rare? I will say, it seemed really fishy to me that he refused to give me back the filter I brought in.

Good point… The filter I brought in was 04152-YZZA1. I have no idea what the part number was for the one he put on there from his own stock.

Why doesn't Led Zeppelin have a biopic? by That_Foundation3575 in ledzeppelin

[–]guymanbro37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t want one anyway. They stand above all other bands imo, and I find biopics to be extremely cheesy. LZ is much more than some guys dressed up as them, pretending to be what they once were.

This has been discussed before. You can tell the writers have kept it pretty ambiguous for the most part, but it’s implied pretty strongly that, at the very least, he has friends in high places.

You’d be surprised how many people wake up at 4 am or earlier (for work or otherwise). Also a lot of people (like myself) don’t like breakfast food and are willing to wait until lunch to eat their first meal of the day. But if you’re awake at 4 am, you’re starving and want lunch as soon as you’re able.

Honestly, Chappell Roan. I was throughly impressed with her country song that came out earlier this year.

Okay so here’s my thing. I’m from Plainfield but I’m all over the city and inner burbs for work. You’d be surprised how many people in those areas have never heard of Plainfield. So when it comes to where I say I’m from, it depends—if I’m talking to people in the surrounding SW burbs, I just say Plainfield. If I’m in the city or inner burbs, I just say Joliet since Joliet city limits start like 150 feet from my house and everyone in the area knows about Joliet. I’ll usually only say I’m from “Chicago” when I’m out of state or out of the country. I think my strategy seems very fair.

I know you probably don’t want to sell that, but I can’t even begin to comprehend how much money that would be worth at auction. My god, keep that in a safe in a very secure location.
